you don't mind staying a little bit north of the main sights in the city. It's worth booking if you're getting it at a much cheaper price than the city centre hotels.
We were a 5 minute bus ride from the shops in the Salamanca district and the downtown area around Cheuca, Retiro, Prado Museum (Bus No.1). There was a bus stop within a 2 minute walk in either direction out of the hotel.
We bought a metro/bus ticket which gave us 10 single rides for Euro 6.40 which was fantastic value (we preferred the buses to the metro).
As for the hotel...it was modern, clean, reasonably priced and in a decent enough neighbourhood (we were 2 girls travelling for a weekend away).
Reception staff were friendly and helpful. I'm not sure if it was a busy period for the hotel but we were never disturbed by other guests during the night (as we were the last time we stayed in another hotel in Madrid).
The room was a very good size - 2 lovely twin beds - even more comfortable than our beds at home! It was well decorated - lovely wood and glass decor.
Bathroom was clean and a good size. The minibar is free but we didn't really make much use of it. TV only had 1 English speaking channel (CNN news!) but we weren't in the hotel room much.
There is also a shuttle which can pick you up and drop you off from the airport - you have to book it beforehand with the hotel - which is a bit of a pain as they don't have any contact details on their website! We had to call a friend in Madrid to get the details and book it for us! However, the shuttle was waiting when we arrived and the driver was very friendly, chatty and showed us a bit of the sights along the way.
The only thing we didn't like was that the hotel did not provide an iron and ironing board - if you wanted something ironed, you had to use their laundry service, which of course will cost you! And the fact that the airport shuttle only operates Monday to Friday! The taxi fare on the sunday cost us Euro 22 for a 5-10 minute drive!
We didn't have breakfast or make use of the fitness suite.
There is a hotel just across the road from the AC Avenida which has a rooftop bar which has views over the city and is apparently worth a visit - but we didn't get a chance.
All in all - well worth booking if you don't mind not being in the centre of the sights.
