“Roof terrace magic”

Villa Emilia

We spent two nights at Villa Emilia last weekend (July) and were really delighted with our choice. It's a modern and sleek hotel, spotlessly clean and comfortable and without the pretentious atmosphere sometimes encountered at 'trendy' hotels.
When we arrived at 10.30pm on Friday straight from work in the UK, the roof terrace was like an oasis of calm. Cocktails, comfy sofas, a gentle breeze a flickering candles - bliss!

We liked:
- The Roof Terrace (actually, I LOVED that!)
- The interior design
- Free afternoon tea
- Quiet location

Not quite so keen on:
- The noisy plumbing from the room upstairs
- The squeaky door on the room opposite us which woke us up at 7am!

“Great hotel in a safe neighbourhood - Good value for money in Barca”

I try to keep my reviews short as like a lot of people you don’t read the war and peace ones…So I hope this helps you…

We booked the Emilia for a 40th birthday party of 7 people, we didn’t want to pay the earth, which, being a city, you invariably end up doing, but we loved this place and found it immaculate, with minimalist modern furniture, good sized rooms, aircon and contrary to some other reviews, staff that fell over themselves to help, with advice on restaurants, where to go, getting taxi’s for you.

Once you’ve unpacked and want 2mins to take it all in, catch the lift to the rooftop terrace for a cold beer – not to be missed….

I sort off agree with some reviewers on the location, this hotel isn’t bang on-top of everything, however its only 15mins nice walk from the La Rablas or 5Euros in a taxi.

The Ramblas is nice for a walk, the shops on it are naff, however if you walk of into the side streets of the Gothic side, you’ll love it.

Don’t miss the harbour, its beautiful, full of bars, restaurants, perfect for people watching whether day or night to eat, its just something you need to do…

Final points: Open top tourist bus 20Euros - good fun – short walk from Emilia. Tapas in Placa Reial (Gothic area) – Not to be missed.

Taxi from the Airport takes 20/25Mins…They’re all metered, so don’t worry about being ripped off.

“Unhelpful staff and average location”

Villa Emilia

Jul 16, 2008

My husband and I stayed at the Villa Emilia for 3 nights in April. It was our first stop of a 4 week tour of Spain. On first impressions it seemed like a lovely designer hotel.

Unfortunately, these initial impressions did not last long. While the decor and ambience were inviting, the rooms very modern and clean, the roof top terrace a lovely way to chill and soak up the Barcelona sun (many hotels in Barcelona have these), the biggest let down for this hotel were the uninterested, unhelpful and arrogant staff.

Location wise, we found the hotel just that little bit out of the way although it was a quite, safe neighbourhood and the hotel was close to a metro stop. We wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone who likes to travel and be in the heart of things - and that by no way means staying on the La Ramblas!

As we spent 10 days in Barcelona we had the opportunity to stay at 2 other hotels - one in the Barri Gothic and the standout hotel - Hotel Granados 83, in the Eixample district - a fabulous hotel in a wonderful neighbourhood within easy reach to all the main attractions, and if you enjoy good food, you'll find some of the best (not necessarily expensive) restaurants in Barcelona within easy walking distance.

“Best Hotel in Barcelona”

Villa Emilia

5 of 5 stars
Richland, WA
Jul 9, 2008

We just returned from a family trip to Spain. Barcelona and the Hotel Villa Emilia was our first stop. Check-in was easy, and we were able to get our rooms before noon. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were great- plenty big, comfy beds, nice bathrooms and amenities. Breakfast was included in our rate, and it was terrific- large with a lot of variety. There is a reception every night, but we did not make it. The location is about 50 feet from a metro stop, in a quiet residential neighborhood. We loved our 2 night stay here, and would highly recommend it for travelers to Barcelona!
