Cool , funky, great location , reasonably priced. Highly recommended

I was more than pleased with our stay at the B Hotel. It was very modern, clean & very convieniently located to the train station, airport & tourist buses. I would definately stay there again. I always check several web sites. 1st prices(very reasonable), then for reviews, and we (there were 6 of us) were not disappointed with anything at the "B".

My wife and I stayed there for 4 nights on a romantic/sightseeing break.

Although it is slightly out of the city centre we found it a great location. It is easily accessible from the airport by the airport bus right outside the terminal. They will drop you at Plac Espanya and the hotel is right there. When you want to head into the city centre there is a metro station just across the road from the hotel. We found this the easiest way to get around and were in the city centre within 10 minutes of leaving the hotel. Within 10 minutes walk of the hotel is the hill of Montjuc and the Font Magic which are worth a look on weekend evenings when the fountains are set to music. Also next to this is Mies Van Der Rohe's Barcelona Pavillion, a mecca for architecture buffs. We carried on walking up the hill, helped by a series of very welcome outdoor escalators and after a half hours stroll with some beautifull views of the city, we were at the Joan Miro Museum. Carry on from here and you can get the Fununcular railway back to the metro system.

We found the staff really helpfull and friendly. Breakfast very good with a great selection which definitely set us up for a day of sightseeing (sausage, bacon, eggs, tortilla, cereal, toast, croisants, pastries, fruit, tea, coffee, juices, cold meats, bread, cheese, tomato, boiled egg, etc.).

General design of the hotel is cool and modern. It was clean and well maintained. Slightly form over function in some things but fun anyway. The rooms are pretty big and well laid out. Much bigger than you would get in some 3 stars. I'm guessing there are certain criteria you need to fulfill to get a higher star rating because this is way better than some 3 stars I have stayed in. Maybe the fact that they don't have a full restaurant hold it back.

We booked through last minute and it didn't say whether they were twin or double beds on the booking. My wife added in the comments that we would like a double and they had a record of the comment at reception when we arrived. We were told we had been given a 'Matrimonial' bed. I don't know if this is the normal double size for this hotel but it was massive. The glass divider between bedroom and shower was an interesting concept although maybe not so good if you were travelling with a friend! There was a venetian blind between the panes of glass but we never managed to work out how to close it.

The deck on the roof is great for a relaxing drink although it was a little too chilly to test the pool when we were there.

One negative thing I have seen in other reviews is the fact thet there is a lot of building work around which spoils the view. True there are a lot of buliding going up and cranes nearby but we weren't disturbed by the noise at all. I guess it isn't the best view in Barcelona but from what I saw most of the upmarket hotels in the city centre were either on narrow lanes with no view at all or on fairly busy streets anyway. If you want a really nice modern hotel AND a beautiful view of the seafront or marina I think you probably need to up your budget. Unless someone knows different and I'd be glad of the reccomendation.

I've also seen some people have mentioned that there is a sex shop across the road. Unless you have children who you don't want asking awkward questions or you are particularly sensitive I wouldn't worry about it. The windows are completely blacked out and there is nothing on display from outside.

Overall we had a great stay and would be happy to go back.

The hotel was excellent, but the receptionist was very unpolite and rude. She told us in half an hour to check in and when we got there she said that she was mistaken and that we had to come back in more than 4 hours later! Very unprofessional for such a hotel!
