“Did not want to leave...”

Hotel de Rome

Did not have a 100% satisfying experience staying at Rocco Forte's The Charles Hotel (Munich) this May, but still wanted to try the Hotel de Rome in Berlin.

I have been to many good hotels around the globe (Four Seasons, Aman resorts, Ritz Carltons, Park Hyatts....) but my stay at the Hotel de Rome was among the best hotel experiences I've ever had.

The hotel and especially the entire staff they have in Berlin make a guest feel very much at home from the very first second he comes to the Hotel de Rome. It starts with a nice door man, goes on with a super friendly check in service, a perfect demonstration of the room, charming staff in the spa, delicious food for dinner, great breakfast and a highly professional and warm service at the restaurant. Also in the bar and on the roof top terrace I was so happy with Massimo and his staff's service. Very attentive and nice at every minute.

I loved the rooms, since they are so tasteful, more stylish than
Munich, clean and well maintained as if they are brand new.

During my stay I never wanted to leave the hotel because it has such a nice atmosphere and I was really sad to leave.

In my opinion it's the staff that makes the difference between a very good hotel stay and a fantastic hotel stay. In Berlin they have the best staff I have seen in a long time. Warm smiles and highly
professional people all over the place. You can see that they like
working there. Congrats on the person who selects them and a big, big THANK YOU to all of them from me ;-)

Not to forget the location that could not be any better in Berlin. In the middle of everything, with stunning views from the roof top terrace and yet quiet and away from the hussle and buzzle..

Cannot wait for my next stay in October.

“Five star service”

Hotel de Rome

My friend and I stayed for 2 nights and the staff couldn´t have been more helpful. They mistakenly gave me a smoking room which was quickly resolved for a non-smoking room. The rooms and bathrooms were lovely and the room cleaning and turn-down service thorough. The concierge was very helpful in finding us a lake nearby where we could spend the afternoon as well as advising on nearby attractions and services. The doormen were also friendly. The breakfast was superb with wonderful homemade breads and pastries as well as all the usual five star trimmings one would expect. We wanted to dine there too, but it was a bit too quiet (being late July) for our social appetites so we went elsewhere, but it looked promising. The spa was good although you are unlikely to get 2 people doing laps at the same time and the freshly squeezed orange juice they offer on paper is not freshly squeezed in reality. I had a great pedicure. Overall this hotel was wonderful and worth the stay.

“Perfect Service, Best Hotel Ever”

Hotel de Rome

5 of 5 stars
San Francisco

The concierge at the Hotel de Rome (Anne), rescued our European vacation.

We have stayed at very nice hotels in cities all over the world, and the Hotel de Rome definitely is at the top of the list in terms of rooms, amenities, location (all top-notch), but what truly separated this Hotel and makes us de Rome apostles is the truly amazing service, hospitality and warmth of the concierge (Anne--pronounced Anna if you go to see her).

Our vacation got off to a rocky start because some of our luggage was lost. Anne went above and beyond in helping us by putting us at ease that we would find it, she called the airport more than necessary to track it down, and had it delivered to our room...all while trying to come up with suggestions for relaxing things to do while we waited for the luggage to arrive. After that hurdle was passed, she continued to help truly make our stay in Berlin amazing by recommending great restaurants (even though we're not their typical clientele....we're a younger lesbian couple as opposed to the business-type older men and couples and fancy American families that we came across there). At no time did we feel that we received less attention or service when asking for a great Vietnamese noodle shop for reservations vs. a Michelin - starred restaurant. Need a wine shop? Done. Need bikes? Done and done. Compared to other front desk and concierge services during the rest of our stay...well, it just doesn't compare.

Here's another ridiculous example of their great service: We asked for rush laundry service since we only had a couple of articles of clothing, and they quickly obliged. When we looked around and saw that the fee would be outrageous (70 Euro) for a few pieces of clothes, we asked them to cancel, and they agreed. Instead of canceling the service, they finished laundering, and took the fee off our bill.

There's a reason you pay up a little bit (and by the way, we paid much less than the rate advertised on their website by booking through Expedia--a rate also available on Tablethotels), but in return, you get so much more.

Not only would I recommend this hotel to anyone who will listen...I would return to Berlin...endure 20 hours of flying...just to stay here again.

The only small very minor points that I can complain about (oh so minor), are that they could have a little bit more thorough gym equipment, and ditch the scratchy linen sheets.

But everything else was splendid!!!! (We had drinks at the bar and watched football and chatted w/ the bartender....the list goes on and on)

“Expensive but great!”

Hotel de Rome

An excellent hotel - quietly located in the Mitte district (within what used to be East Berlin), opposite a quiet square and Humboldt Univ. About 10 minutes walk from Brandenburg Gate, about 10 minutes walk from Museum Island, about 15 minutes by taxi to Kunst Forum where the superb and newly built Gemaldegalerie and Neue National Galerie have excellent art collections.

About 20 minutes from Tegel airport by taxi at 6pm in the evening (cost E20 which we thought very reasonable) and about 40 minutes from Schonefeld airport (cost us E40 to get there for our return flight).

Much larger hotel than the other Rocco Forte hotel we have visited (Savoy in Florence). Also has outside space (4th floor terrace and bar) which was much appreciated as weather was in the high 80s (in May!!)

Extremely stylishly decorated, pleasant bar with live music in the evenings, extensive (but expensive) breakfast buffet. We had lunch there too in the Parioli restaurant (Italian) - very good.

In room internet is expensive E20 per 24 hours. Wifi downstairs free of charge but did not try this (if you are on business, you will be in your room!).

We had deluxe rooms - extremely large and airy. Not sure I would pay the extra as we heard standard rooms are pretty good too, and we did not spend long in the rooms. Bathroom was perfect - up to date, absolutely clean, and separate shower and bath. We paid E400 per night including breakfast so we had high expectations.

Did not visit the Spa.

Staff a mix of other Europeans and Germans - without exception they were friendly and pleasant.

In the vicinity, there is the Michelin starred Vau restaurant (rather expensive but with a pleasant courtyard for warm evening dining) about 5 minutes walk. Other restaurants a short walk away - mixed quality. Concierge gives good advice.

Not perhaps the most exciting place for younger people to stay (no local buzz) but extremely comfortable for middle aged folk.

Those of us who like swirly carpets and "traditional" decor might be better off at the Adlon but we would certainly return if in Berlin again.

We used to love the Forte hotels and some how Rocco Forte carries on where they were when taken over. We have stayed at a few RF hotels and they have the same ambience; you feel like you are staying with family or good friends - but the service is first class!!
