You won't be excited by the location of this hotel - but you certainly will have an enjoyable, comfortable and relaxing stay. It's a residential area and lacks the style and up-market image of central Berlin but the hotel is only a short walk from a couple of U-bahn stations so it's easy to get anywhere across the city.
It's clean and modern and the buffet breakfast is terrific. There is one problem, however. The rooms are not air-conditioned and when the temperature in Berlin touches the high 20s and 30 degrees C, it can become uncomfortable - especially at night.
For a business stay or a weekend break you get excellent value for money. Several of the local bars and restaurants have plenty of atmosphere and serve food and drink at reasonable prices. Wander up to Karl-Marx Allee to see some amazing left-over Communist architecture and sample the food in the quiet restaurants of the area.
Berlin is 'must-visit' city...and you won't be disappointed by staying at the Hotel Friedrichshain.
