“Small Economical Hotel with clean rooms”

Jesmond Dene Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Yuba City, CA, USA
Aug 17, 2008

We arrived tired after our flight to London and were welcomed and placed on the fourth floor. We had a small clean room with comfortable beds. The narrow steps up and down were difficult for me (62 years) but I learned how to climb them. My wife needed help getting her suitcase up and the owner offered to help with out being asked. That was nice.
The room was quiet and the breakfast was good and tasty. The English bacon was especially good.
We shared a very small bathroom across the hall and it worked out fine. It was kept clean and we had enough clean towels.
The rooms were an excellent value for London.

“So Close to King'sCross-St.Pancras”

Jesmond Dene Hotel

Aug 10, 2008

I stayed here on the way to/from Scotland. Just used it as a stop-over between train trips/ flights. Was really close to King's Cross-St.Pancras station, which made traveling by train to other parts of the UK very easy. Hotel was very clean and fitted out with new tv. Staff very polite.

“they went the extra mile”

Jesmond Dene Hotel

Aug 5, 2008

as a family of four including two tired teenage daughters we arrived at 10.15pm. We had reserved our room two months before by using our credit card. When we checked in the card was refused. This was tried several times with the relevant authorisation code. I had several calls with the hotel's owner who was marvellous and who kindly allowed us to stay. We caught a dawn Eurostar and I arranged to have the funds transferred to the hotel during the day. The owner rang me in the South of France later that day to confirm all was ok. It was a great relief that he had been so trusting. Oh yes...the hotel! Perfect for St Pancras, perfect for us and perfect for London. My credit card company are anxious to avoid publicity and are deeply embarressed. I am certain that if I had encountered a similar problem at hotel chain I would not have been able to stay.

“A Serious Issue”

Room and breakfast is ok. The girl served us breakfast is friendly but I sensed kind of racial discrimination from the hotel receptionist (owner) and his wife. They were quite cool to us, even to my cutie little young daughter when she waved goodbye to them.

There are quite a lot of these kind of B&B hotel near Kings Cross. The room rate of this hotel is higher than the others near by.

“we would stay again...”

Jesmond Dene Hotel

3 of 5 stars
Tucson, Arizona
Jul 29, 2008

Based on the reviews from tripadvisor (how could anyone book a trip without tripadvisor?) - The Jesmond Dene was exactly what we expected... no better.... no worse. We were travelling with our 20 year old, and so first thing... unpack things where you can, and put the bags under the bed. Our private bath left much to be desired... in dire need of updating and a little smelly, but great water pressure, and let's face it.... it worked for what we needed. The beds were very comfy, with nice linens and I give JD the "best pillow" award. We need more than 1 pillow/person, and so requested extra's which were promptly delivered. I wasn't wild about the "English breakfast", but my husband loved it. Great location for taking the bus or tube everywhere. Enjoy your breakfast, but don't dally.... the hardworking and friendly staff has plenty of people to move through the breakfast room each day. Fortunately, it was cool enough when we were visiting that we didn't need A/C, which I didn't realize the hotel didn't have. So.... if you just need a place to sleep, and shower..... this hotel works fine. Make sure to visit the "Fish Restaurant" (closed Sundays) - just ask at the desk.... they can give you directions. Superb food.
