The hotel is in a perfect central location for all of the things you would want to see in Quebec City. We booked this hotel based on reviews in here and I agree with all of the positive ones. Marielle treated us like family and was there to greet us as we arrived. She was very helpful with tips in navigating the city and attractions. She made our stay in this beautiful city all the more enjoyable.

We were THRILLED with our stay in Room #1 at Hotel Maison du Fort for Quebec City's 400th birthday. The completely bi-lingual owner was very kind and helped us in countless ways. We'll visit again and recommend it to everyone.

I spent 6 nights at the Maison Du Fort, the first week of July for the 400th Celebration, and I was thrilled!!! Firstly, Madame Marielle Roy, the proprietress, is a true treasure and genuine pleasure to meet. Warm, friendly, full of suggestions on what to do, where to go, and where to eat. She makes absolutely certain that you will have an excellent time in her city, and be comfortable in her home, which when you first walk into, will feel like it is also your home. I felt like I was staying with family. Mme and her staff take great pride in this home, and it shows.

The hotel has a definite feline theme to it. Mme. Roy has 2 house cats. They are so adorable and friendly. In fact, they are so quiet, you may think they are part of the decor, until you see one of them move. My room (#8) was bedecked like a kitty corner. The half dozen pictures in my room are of cats and the little plaque on the room door had a cat on it too. The room looked exactly as it is pictured on the website, in fact, all of the rooms (or the ones I managed to peep into) did.

My room was charming, well decorated, and absolutely spotless, as was the entire hotel!! The room, although what many would consider on the small side, was perfect for me as a solo female traveler. I had enough room to move, store my bags, and relax, and there was adequate lighting. My bed was comfortable with good linens and pillows, and provided me each night with a good rest. The bathroom, again very small by many standards, but pristine, decorated like a bathroom you'd have in your home. I found the shower a little tight, but it had good hot water and water pressure.

My room faced a mostly quiet side street, where the sun greeted me every morning through my window, which opened and closed easily to the fire escape, where I would sit in the morning to eat the wonderful pastries Mme set out for breakfast.

My room was not air conditioned, but the room was very comfortable. Just turn on the fan or open the window and feel the breeze. I slept with my windows open every night. It was quiet, cool, and I felt safe. There is no TV or phone in the room. I loved it! Why look at TV when Quebec City is right at your feet? I got to enjoy peace and quiet, and totally relax. The hotel does however, have free wireless internet. It worked great, always available and a good signal strength.

As for the location, it's superb, in the heart of Old Quebec. The Maison is conveniently located on Rue St. Geneviève in Old Quebec, a couple blocks away from the Chateau Frontenac and the St. Lawrence River. A few blocks in another direction are Rue St. Louis and Rue St. Jean, which have good shopping and great dining. The situation of the hotel is one of its many assets. So after a day of sightseeing and puttering around you can quickly come back for a nap, to freshen up, to drop some shopping bags off, or to run back for something you forgot.

Parking isn't at the hotel itself, but a short walk away. (ask Marielle which garage to use, it can save you a few dollars. ) Unless you are leaving the city, don't bother trying to drive, just leave your car there. The best way go see QC is by foot.

Do not miss this hotel!!! If you do, then you'll miss out on one of the best things in Quebec. I know where I'll be staying whenever I'm in town.

“A wonderful small hotel!”

Maison du Fort

Jul 8, 2008

We loved this hotel! It is a perfect location to walk to most attractions and it is on a quiet street. If you go and you have difficulty with steps, request a lower floor as there are no elevators and the top floors require several flights of steps to reach. Some rooms are large, others small and the bathrooms are small but very clean. We enjoyed the coffee, tea and select pasteries each morning. We brought this to our room on trays provided. The owners are always helpful and we all felt like family. I would highly recommend this small, clean hotel. It has three stars in the rating system.

“Great location, our home away from home”

We found Hotel Maison du Fort through Tripadvisor, and noticed that it was very highly-rated. The webpage is excellent and gives a true representation.

We stayed in Room 9 and also in Room 5, which included a table and chairs in a bay window. Both rooms were well looked-after, clean and nicely furnished, with comfortable beds.

Our hostess Marielle was friendly and informative, and hosted a nice breakfast on the main floor each morning. She gave us lots of hints to help us navigate the city.

The location is excellent, a few short steps from the Dufferin Terrace. Be sure to walk uphill towards the Citadelle, for a truly majestic view of Quebec City and the mighty St. Lawrence river, even better than the view from the Terrace. Everything in the old city is nearby, which we appreciated as we'd travelled by train. The streets in this area are quiet, and there is no traffic noise to disturb a good night's sleep.

We would recommend this as a great place to stay when visiting Quebec City!
