I checked into this hotel late on a Thu night; stayed till noon next day to use the pool and fitness. I'm not so sure I'd return.
I had trouble finding it. It's a non-descript 5 story newer building in a weird area. Carlingview runs next to the Airport hiway. It has way too many strip clubs, along with a Hooters. There's a Moore's clothing outlet next door. Definitely not pedestiran friendly. There is an Enterprise Car Rental depot along the way.
That $10 parking is really frustrating. The front desk MUST have your licence plate number. When you get into the garage, unless you lucked out, you'll need to do stairs as you enter the hotel; a pain when you've got luggage and been driving for hours.
My room had a comfy king bed with a huge wood panel headboard. Queen sofabed with coffee table. A really long work desk; wireless internet worked well for me. Upscale light fixtures and a big wood panel head. Great tv. Sealed window, but the air conditioning worked fine. The wall prints are arty flower closeups - so don't reflect on Toronto. Because the hotel is not that old, the room has tasteful muted wallpapers in gold hues. Bathroom is spacious with a large vanity. I understand the post about the shampoo bottle hard to open!
Closet has lots of wood hangers, a safe, iron and board. The empty fridge next to it has a light inside, coffemaker above. Next to the elevators was an ice machine and $2 pop/soda.
My biggest frustration? The book in the room that describes the hotel features. Has a checkout time of 11am; I saw last minute that a sign on the room door states noon. There's no mention of a pool, whirlpool, or fitness room.
The pool has a sign stating an opening hour of 7am, but the front desk told me 6am. The clock in the pool doesn't change time. Someone has taken the clock down in the fitness room, since it too doesn't work. Why a hotel doesn't change a battery is beyond me.
Fitness room has a tv (but no remote), treadmill, eliptical, stationery bike, 3 univeral stations and some small free weights. Towels and spray to clean off the equipment. Room temperature was good, although there's no individual fans.
As you go into the pool area, there's a barrier free washroom + shower + 3 lockers all in a room that locks. The lap pool is truly that. Nice temperature. The peeling paint on the pool floor creeps me out, but there are stairs - not a ladder - into the pool. Whirlpool was not especially deep or hot, but was clean. Looks like the showers and dry sauna at the far end of the pool area rarely get used.
With the poor reviews of the hotel breakfast, I drove to a Tim Hortons which is a distance away (I've stayed in several hotels in the area, so sort of know my way around) I'm not keen on the donut shop that is down the street from the hotel.
