I stayed over for 1 night, Saturday July 19th to catch a flight to Cuba the following day. I had obtained a good rate of $119 a month or more previous to arriving online. No changes were permitted for this rate.
I caught the complimentary shuttle service with no problem from YYZ airport upon arrival from Halifax early afternoon. I might have waited about 5 to 10 minutes is all. Check in was fast, efficient and friendly. My room was very nice on the third floor, view of the entrance overlay. The roar of planes from the nearby runways was very minimal unlike what I had read about in previous reviews of this hotel. Internet connection in room and the lobby was fast and clear. I had dinner with friends at the West by East Bistro within the hotel and found it very overpriced with a limited menu, so so service.
Had it not been for a downpour and lightening weather conditions we would have eaten elsewhere and wish now that we had moved on.
Next day check out was a breeze and the shuttle came right on schedule, friendly driver who handled the luggage carefully.
I would definately stay again and probably will in the future.

The Toronto Marriott is close to the airport and you can tell by the pretty much constant WHOOSH of aircraft overhead. It's not unbearable but I'm glad I brought my earplugs. The wonderful beds and top notch linens, with down duvet, pillows, and high thread count sheets made for a very nice, cozy sleep. The bathroom is great because it has the sink outside of the toilet/shower room and has very nice Bath and Body Spa products and lots of towels.
The food wasn't much here, pretty mediocre, but I was at a conference so can't really rate the restaurant itself. I did buy a prepackaged sandwich at the restaurant entrance and the hostess seemed quite miffed when I asked for mayo to go w/ my roast beef. They had no packets so she gave me a half of a to go cup full. Try juggling a drink, sandwich and that in the elevator back to the room. Not an easy task!
Everyone else at the front desk reception were wonderful and very helpful. The gift shop person was surly and the prices are not cheap there. Another drawback was the area the hotel is located in, there's nothing around w/in walking distance and the view is horrid. It's great for stays near the airport but there's no real easy way to get to Toronto. You're pretty much stuck unless you have a car.

I had booked a 'cars eat too' room package for $149 per night (included self parking fee and $25 Petro Canada gas card). The room was supposed to be a king deluxe room with a sofabed -what we got was a normal king with just one chair/ottoman - much smaller than ordered. Called front desk and they gave me another room as ordered but made it very clear they were not happy with my complaining and kept me hanging on the phone for 20 minutes before 'finding' the right room as booked. They even suggested they'd put in a roll-away cot if I wanted an extra bed but I don't know where they'd put it as there was simply no room.

The hotel was very busy for a Saturday and they only had two people on check in, so we had to wait twice ... once for checking in to the wrong room and again for finding the right room. The right room was larger, but not by much.

The self parking is a zoo -- 4 floor of it but only 2 floors with elevator service so be prepared to carry your bags up/down stairs as a lot of the cars are there for 8 nights due to one of their other 'deals' where you get 8 nights parking if you stay there one night...great if you are flying away for a week from the nearby Pearson airport. Not so great if you self park.

Room decor: Old Marriott. Except for the (quite hard) Revive bed the rest of the room was tired - even a little 25 inch CRT TV. No Mini-Bar or fridge. Carpet real old (green). A/C blew all night no matter how high we made the temp. Room cleanliness left a lot to be desired - there were corks and papers under the bed and sofabed that the maid never even looked for. Glasses were dirty (lipstick) so we had to clean ourselves before using. Coffee machine did not work...but we got free coffee from the lobby.

Pet Friendly: Not as friendly as Westin offers with heavenly doggie beds, ID tags, candies, bowls, etc. They have a $30 doggie fee though.

Room service was good but far from hot when delivered: Dinner for 2 (plus grilled chicken breast for dog) was $150 including a $39 bottle of wine: Hamburger (good) with fries ($15); Fillet 8 oz was $35 with baked potato; Onion soup $8; cake $7. 18% service charge. Breakfast (2 omlets) was $35. Movie was $15.

Room noise: I think the hotel was full this night and there must have been a lot of kids as they were running up halls until quite late. We could also hear planes at the airport.

Next time we'll try the nearby Renaissance instead, but decided to stay at the Marriott because the 'pet' fee was $30 while it was $60 at the Ren. Apparently the Ren is newer and you won't hear the plane noise as much.

We had to ask for the $25 gas card included in the room rate when checking out and almost left without it after checking out. None of the front desk clerks knew anything about it and had to call the manager to get the card for me.

I stay at the property every six months to attend a trade show on the Airport strip. Every January and August the gift show takes place and many of the airport strip hotels are full of exhibitors and attendees. The Congress Centre and the International Centre are very close. So if you are wondering who stays in this hotel besides those not wishing to have a long drive before they catch that early flight to the Carribean in the morning, you will find a lot of business travellers.

Having said that, the Marriott is a very comeptent hotel. They have just gone through a renovation - for those of you who have visited this hotel in the past, the Mikado restaurant is gone, the bar/club is gone. There is now a bar next to the restaurant which style-wise I think is nicer - that old billiard bar always seemed out of place. However, they need to adjust the lighting for the outer part of that bar, it is way too bright for a bar. The part closer to the restaurant is more pleasant.

The service in the restaurant is very warm and helpful - their staff seems to stay there for years and years, there seems to be a big loyalty factor. They remember my name even though I have not been there for six months (and I have not left on my name tag from the show!) The food is very good, and the restaurant has a nice ambience with a view to the back lawn and wooded area which is pleasant (seeing that it is an airport hotel). They have a vegetarian ravioli dish which I could not get enough of, I could have had it every time I ate there.

The rooms are nice and the bedding is fantastic - nice puffy duvets and pillows. I love it. Cannot say anything bad about the rooms. And I didn't hear noise even though it is close to the airport.

The hotel is located very close to the airport, but don't take a taxi, it costs almost $20 which is ridiculous. Take the shuttle. It depends on which terminal you are in for which post wait next to, but ask someone as you follow the signs for shuttle buses, OR call the hotel and they will tell you. I have never had to wait that long and I go there often. It is a pleasant ride and they stop at the Marriott first, it is not a milk run like some of the other shuttles.

They have a business centre which is handy, you can go on the internet, etc. and print (for a price).

What kills me when I stay here in the summer is the lack of an outdoor pool. If you stay at the Holiday Inn Select across the road they have a fabulous outdoor pool (and indoor as well). The Marriott only has an indoor pool. And if you sit outside in the back, try getting served a drink. In this area the Select has it all over the Marriott. However we don't want to switch back and forth between the Marriott and the Select, it gets confusing for our group, so we stick with the Marriott. Also the Marriott has a good points program, make sure you sign up.

One final note: they can handle themselves in a crisis - a number of years ago there was a blackout in Toronto. It affected a large area of the city, hotels included. The Marriott handled itself wonderfully, passing out little 'glow in the dark' sticks to find our rooms, it opened the buffett to everyone, and it was all handled very well I thought.

All in all, a good solid business hotel.
