The Toronto Hilton is located in the downtown area of Toronto, in the middle of the city's financial district. It's about 30 floors high, but it still easily one of the smaller htels in the area, being dwarfed by the Sheraton opposite.
We visited the hotel about a month before Christmas and the hotel was more than ready. The first thing that hit us when we walked into the beautiful reception area was the huge Christmas tree, and carol singers. It made us feel warm and festive before we'd even checked in. And being ass it it was snowing outside, the warm feeling was more than welcome!
Check-in was so easy and friendly. nothing was too much trouble. We had arrived quite early, so the porter took our bags and showed us to the bar, where we sat down with a couple of Baileys looking out over snowy Toronto. It was incredibly romantic.
The rooms were opulent. The beds wewre huge and the bathrooms had marble floors and huge oversized showers. We even got our own bathrobes, which were so thick I felt like the Andrex puppy.
We had requested a high floor, and a high floor is what we got. We could see out over half of the city. Unfortunately it was facing north. It would have been nice to be the other side of the corridor where the views would have overlooked the CN Tower and Lake Ontario.
The lifts were fabulous, glass-fronted elevators that swept up the side of the building. Great for adrenalin junkies like me, but not so good for those with a spot of vertigo.
Facilities at the hotel are great. The pool and sauna is small, but quiet. The pool stretches out on to the roof terrace, but in the sub-zero November chill, I'd not recommend trying it out! The gym is also small but very clean. The restaurants and bars are all incredibly good quality and no matter where you go, the staff are friendly and seem genuinely intereested in you.
The location is perfect for all the big attractions. It's just a few minutes waalk from the CN Tower, Lake Ontario, the Air Canada Centre, and the main shops. One of its best features is that it's connected to The Eaton Centre via PATH, an underground shopping maze. It really is quite a spectacle. It's a never-ending maze of shops that connect up most of downtown Toronto and lead to the main shopping centre.
All in all, I'd head back to this hotel in a flash. It really is the most wonderful hotel I've been to.
