I stayed at the Hilton Toronto in order to attend a conference. I booked in for 3 nights and made the reservation for a King size bed about 2 months in advance, noting I would arrive around 11 pm. I reconfirmed this 48 hours before arriving. Evenso, when I arrived I was given the option of taking a room with a king bed 'behind the elevator' and if I didn't think I would be able to handle the noise for it, I was offered a room somewhere else in the hotel with a double bed. It was late, so I agreed to take Room 1602 for the night, at least. What a shock I got. The elevator noise was definitely NOT the problem. This had to be the oldest, most worn and used room in the building!!! Big deal, it had a new bed and comforter. The walls were marked and dirty, the window was fogged up, and the bathroom was a nightmare. Take a look at the photos. Black mold all around the bathtub, grungy grime on the tap of the sink, paint peeling on the bathroom ceiling, etc. Yuck! First thing next morning I asked for another room. First answer was there were only Kings left 'behind the elevators' if that was what I wanted. If I did, then I had to come back at 3 pm to get the key for one. INstead, I returned to the desk at Noon, and voila... a room had 'opened up'!
For the second two nights, I was given a beautiful, standard room with a king size bed, Room 1416 (not enough space to provide photos of this good room). What a relief! It was a pleasure to stay in this room!!!
On the other hand, the conference centre was okay - just average, but convenient. The catering for the conference was FANTASTIC!!! I ate once upstairs in the main restaurant. Good food. Very expensive. Fairly attentive service.
The Business Centre leaves alot to be desired. I needed to get extra copies of something. The b & w charge is 35cents per copy (pricey, don't you think?) and you must pay for copies with a credit card. 5o copies cost me $88.00!!!!!!! Can you believe that? Of course, they got on the phone to whomever and said they rectified the error in the charge. My Visa bill hasn't come in yet, so I am not sure about that. I'm waiting. The woman in line in front of me in the Business Centre had a very similar experience.
The location of the hotel is great: right in the heart of Toronto.
I have photos of the really nice room, 1
