“Great for a solo female traveler”

Hilton Toronto

4 of 5 stars
The Finger Lakes, NY
Sep 24, 2008

As a female traveling alone, I felt very safe and attended to at the Hilton Toronto. The location was great, the concierge and desk clerks were helpful and I felt comfortable walking by myself in the surrounding neighborhood.

When I arrived back at the hotel from attending a Saturday evening concert at Massey Hall that let out around 11 p.m., two employees were stationed in front of the elevator to make sure anyone going near that area had a room key. That gave me a secure feeling as well.

It took around 12-15 minutes to walk to Massey Hall and was very easy and safe to do alone. Also, there were some decent places to eat along the way along with great places to shop.

While I could have gotten a much better deal on the room (start your bids at $80 on priceline and go up from there), it was still a good value. I called a day before my arrival and requested one of the renovated rooms on one of the higher floors and the staff kindly accommodated me. I felt very lucky!

The room was spacious, modern clean and nicely appointed, and the bed felt heavenly and comforting after a long day. It definitely felt like a business traveler's room, but I liked it and it beautifully served my needs. The only complaint is that the bathroom smelled musty/mildewy even though on the surface it looked clean. Since my stay was brief, I chose to overlook this.

I enjoyed riding the elevator with the outdoor view. Parking was easy as well and yes, it was a bit expensive, but very convenient, so no complaints!

The biggest hassle was getting into downtown. The Gardiner Expressway was closed so what should have taken 10 minutes by car took an hour. Be smart and call ahead to ask about road construction, closings, etc.

Also, while there, many streets were closed due to a movie being filmed near the hotel. This complicated getting to the hotel as much as the Gardiner Expressway being closed. While the filming was probably an unusual occurrence, it would have been good to know about this in advance.

The next day for breakfast I decided to splurge and eat at Tundra--one of the restaurants at the Hilton--because I liked the modern decor and because I had an enjoyable breakfast there once before.

Again, it's a bit costly, but the convenience and quality is worth it. For $23 (CAD) plus tax, the buffet, which has many choices, such as eggs benedict, pea meal bacon, fresh fruit and wide selection of breads/muffins, also includes tea and juice. There seem to be plenty of other nice places to eat in the area with much lower prices, so you definitely have options.

Overall I felt pleased with my experience and would stay at the Hilton Toronto again. It seems like everyone I encountered was very kind and accommodating and the location is ideal.

“Nice stay”

Hilton Toronto

4 of 5 stars
Lexington, KY
Sep 16, 2008

We recently stayed at the Toronto Hilton for four nights. My husband was there for a conference. We requested and received a renovated room with a view towards the CN tower. It had all the usual Hilton amenities, although it could have been slightly cleaner, especially the carpet. The bed was great and I like having a chair with an ottoman for reading. The hotel location is very convenient, with a subway stop nearby. Other than to the Distillery District, we walked and rode the subway everywhere. There is no minibar in the room, although there is a coffee/tea maker. Pet peeve: $12.95 per day for Internet service?! The indoor/outdoor pool is nice, but be for warned, the gym is being renovated, although the hotel does give you a pass for a nearby health club. They are also doing other renovation which we could not hear from our room, but was very loud in the lobby. Also, there was a loud party on our floor one of the nights (Several rooms had their doors propped open, so the party was literally in the hall!). It took two calls to security, but eventually it was taken care off.

“Good location - but not a brilliant tourist hotel”

Hilton Toronto

Sep 15, 2008

We stayed at the Hilton Toronto for 7 nights in August this year on a family vacation. My wife was a little aprehensive because we had read about stories of dirty bed sheets etc. from previous tripadvisor guests. We were delighted with the room - it wasn't huge for a family of 4, but for what is really a business hotel the room size was fine - and all very clean. We didn't eat in the hotel but it is well located for lots of restaurants and has a staircase that goes directy to Toronto's path sytem (miles and miles of underground shopping and restaurants to keep you out of the cold in the winter). The pool was a little disappointing and little sunshine around the pool area - but again for a business hotel not too bad. We ate at www.richtree.ca on Yonge St 3 times during our stay and I would highly recommend this for quality and inexpensive fresh food.

“A definite 4 Star”

Hilton Toronto

Sep 5, 2008

Got this hotel room for a real steal at $69 per night through hotwire. My sister, father and I stayed 3 nights at this hotel over the Labour Day weekend. The hotel is 1 block from the Eaton's centre. The hotel is currently finishing renovations to the rooms but this was not a problem. The rooms are among the largest I have ever stayed seen in a hotel. We were given a complimentary cot in the room without being charged in order to accomodate 3 people in the room. The gym was undergoing renovations and we were given complimentary passes to a local highscale gym. The gym was about a 3 minute walk from the hotel. There was an indoor/outdoor pool, spa and sauna but we did not make use of these. The staff was also extremely helpful and able to answer our questions and fill our requests. I have stayed at many downtown Toronto hotels. This was by far the best stay yet. Note however, that we paid only $69 a night. The regular rate is $189. I could not afford this price on my budget.

“Nice hotel, good location”

Hilton Toronto

Aug 16, 2008

Got this hotel for $70 on Priceline, and we were very pleased with it. It's in a great location in downtown Toronto that is connected to the underground walkways. This was really nice because it was raining during our visit. We were able to use the underground walkway to walk to the CN Tower and Rogers Centre. We also had an amazing view of the CN Tower from our room. The bathroom is very modern and the beds are comfy. Overall, it was a good experience.
