“Lousy and overpriced hotel in Vancouver”

This hotel has the worst service, the rooms are, at best, mediocare and the overall ambienace is very poor. The restaurant downStairs, William Tell, serves average food that's way over priced. Their serivce is just lousy!

From the time that we arrived from Seattle, to conclude our Pacific NW vacation in Vancouver, things went downhill. The people that work at the small front desk were not friendly, not courteous nor helpfull. When we asked for their opinion to some local attractions, they refered us to the magazines in our rooms.

The next day, our room wasn't made unitl 4:00 PM. When we asked them why, they said that housekeeping was busy catering to a group checking in and that they will get to it when they're ready. The rooms are mediocare and the overall hotel experience is a 3 star at best. Not worth the type of money we were paying. WE WOULDN'T STAY HERE IF THEY PAID US!!!!

“Not impressed”

Georgian Court Hotel

Not knowing where to stay in our 1st trip to Vancouver, a friend suggested we go to Hotwire, where we booked Georgian Court, a "4-star" hotel. Subsequent to booking through Hotwire, I looked up the hotel website to find that the rate was only $6/night more than Hotwire.

At check-in, we were excited to be in Vancouver and approached the front desk with big smiles. We did not get a smile in return. The attitude was one of nose-in-the air. Immediately they called the busboy to carry our luggage (we had only carry-ons and usually prefer to carry our own) without asking us.

We found the room to be OK in size. View was of the construction across the street. Even though we specified 3 persons in booking as well as at check-in, we found only 1 bathrobe/slippers in closet, and only 2 sets of towels in bathroom. The worst thing was that the black coffee maker and another black appliance in the room were covered with a film of white dust (see 2 pix). We were grossed out and didn't touch these throughout our stay. Sure enough, they were never cleaned and remained dusty day to day. I had to leave a daily note to the maid to leave us 3 sets of towels (with her tip). There was no bath fan in the bathroom.

We asked for maps twice, and both times the reception person looked doubtful and said, mmm...not sure if we have any left, only to look down and find a map. The computer access consisted of a single standing kiosk in a stifling old phonebooth. Bottled water was supposed to be provided every day, but they ran out of water in 3 of the 5 days we were there.

After we came home I realized I left a favorite pr of flipflops in the room. Although these were only $10 flipflips, comfortable ones are hard to come by, so I called the hotel to see if they found them. They did, and the housekeeper asked me for my credit card. Apparently this hotel isn't one of those who would send you a lost item out of goodwill. She said it wouldn't cost much for ground delivery, so I said OK. The $10 flipflips turned out to cost $13.35 to send back to me...

The only positive things I have to say about this hotel is the location (convenient) and the linens (nice). The "style" of this hotel appears to be the kind that caters to older travelers (much older). Next time, we'll stay at Hampton Inn next door. I think the 3 stars I'm giving it now is generous...

“Wonderful surprise!”

I'd definitely recommend staying at this hotel. It's right around the corner from Robson street so all the wonderful dinning and shopping is literally a few minutes away. Clean & spacious rooms, very friendly staff, great little amenities (love the Aveda products!), wonderful location...I really have no complaints. We required assistance a couple of times and the response was extremely quick and cordial. We were able to get everywhere (Stanley Park, Gastown, Sea Bus) by walking. Do be careful though and keep in mind that this hotel is located on the border of the not so nice area of downtown so if you walk just 3 minutes the wrong way things could get alarming! We found ourselves amongst homeless folk and shady characters badgering us for money quite often. This was the only downside.

“Nice Hotel Comfortable Room”

Georgian Court Hotel

4 of 5 stars

Great room, free bottled water, coffee and tea in room. Aveda products in bath. Nice size bathroom with plenty of big towels. Fantastic maid service. Clean and quiet rooms. pillows were a big overstuffed for our liking. beds were warm and comfy.
Room had a desk, TV, 2 chairs and table. nice little closet with safe.
Our first room, because we arrived late, was noisy in the back and when you opened the curtains you were looking at all the office workers across the alley looking at you. ask for a room in the front, MUCH better.
We moved the second day to the front, great views and quiet.
1102 was our end of corridor room. ( it has an a joining door to next room, so if you get someone noisy in there it could be bad) we had peace and quiet. Staff at front desk was kind and helpful, the bellman was great.
I have no idea how a disabled person gets in as there are stairs all along the front. we used the whirlpool and sauna, nice little work out room. Restaurant was nice, simple german menu. pub next door very limited for food, go elsewhere. Metro had a fun seafood menu and you order by the ounce at night. Give it a try. We walked all over and loved the skytrain and bus system. if oyu get the $9.00 all day pass, you can use the skytrain and busses to get everywhere including the Aquaruim and Stanley park. Skytrain goes to the biggest mall in town. The Skytrain is about 2-3 blocks away.
Robson street with all the cool shopping is one block away. There is a Starbucks on every block, not kidding. sometimes 2 on a corner. weird. light rain fell on us for 2 of the 3 days we were there. and rain hat or umbrella kept us dry.
Got a great haircut at Suki's for $50 bucks, beats a cut in CA. :)

“Great Surprise”

Georgian Court Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Costa Mesa, CA

I was not sure about this hotel even after reading the reviews here, but I thought I'd take a chance and book it anyway. It was a great surprise. When we first arrived, the street was bombarded with military vehicles and personnel and we were prevented from going down the street that the hotel was located on. We called the hotel and they said that they were still open and that the side of the street the hotel was on was open. We gave it a chance and were successful. Next challenge was getting into the underground parking. It was hard to see, but we finally saw the part where it said that hotel guests checking in had to dial for security to open the garage door. Parking was not a problem as there was always enough space. Parking was only $10 a day, I thought it would cost us $25 a day. They also posts signs letting you know that vehicle break-ins are a common problem in Vancouver, so we made sure that we took all valuables with us. Check-in was very easy and we were in our room within minutes. The room was very nice and the bed was very comfy. We chose to drive around the city and surprisingly we were a few blocks from Robson Street. It was a madhouse on Robson with all the vehicles and pedestrians. On top of that there was construction going on so traffice was a real pain. We decided to do the Big Bus tour and very conveniently, one of the stops is right in front of the hotel, so we just took the tour and hopped on and off the bus whenever we felt like exploring one of the 20 tour stops. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Georgian and would stay there again if were in Vancouver again.
