Stayed here twice in June and overall it was a good experience.

We asked for a high floor room and they gave us one on the 23rd floor in the corner (dual aspect) which was fantastic with stunning views. When we returned the second time they already had us placed in the same room which was a nice touch.

Rooms are spacious and clean, only negatives are that the place has been sort of refurbished but the bits they didnt do - mainly the bathroom - aren't that nice. There was a funny drain smell all the time in the bathroom and a few silverfish. The air con is ancient so very loud and not that efficient, but does the job. Windows are single glazed so you can hear the noise from the restaurants, buses and street below.

The pool was nice, warm enough to swim in and bathed in afternoon sun. Steam room was also nice and free of charge.

Some extra charges appeared on my credit card which were quickly sorted out and refunded.

The best thing about the hotel is the staff. They couldn't do more to help you. That and the location. It's central to everything you want. the beach is only 10 min walk as are all the shops.

Davie itself is vibrant although quite a few homeless. Dont let it bother you as they just mind their own business mostly, and Vancouver has this problem all over, not just on Davie.

The best restaurant by far in the greek taverna (Stephos?) located about 25m from the hotel (turn right as you exit) there is always a long line outside, but join it - its well worth the 20 minute wait.

My partner and I chose the Sandman because it is located in Vancouver's gay nighborhood, Davie Village. Everything we needed was within walking distance- bars, restaurants, coffee shops, pharmacy and the beach. The hotel itself was very nice. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are apartment style, with a kitchen, breakfast bar and living room. Ours had a spectacular view of the ocean and a balcony. The hotel's restaurant, Moxie's, was nice and the food was very good. I would highly recommend the Sandman.

“Excellent choice”

We stayed here for two weeks - a combination of holidays and other commitments. It has a great location amidst really good restaurants, bars and shops. There's plenty of good fresh produce sold locally if you want to make the most of the suite kitchen too. Sure, there are a couple of 'adult' shops' across the street but they are pretty unobtrusive. We found it was very safe to walk around the area late at night (more than we can say for Granville Street!)
The hotel itself was clean (I guess the hygiene issues have now been sorted) and comfortable with all the facilities we expected.
The hotel staff were all friendly and helpful. The restaurant seemed a bit pricey but the hotel itself is very good value.

I love this location! Excellent restaurants nearby... very friendly staff, good size of room. Good internet connection, and decent cleanliness - however, I am not one to come to a beautiful city, check into my room and inspect with a microscopic eye various dirt particles left about.

Good deal for what you get, in my estimation...

“Very dodgy hygiene, great location”

Sandman Suites Davie - Vancouver Downtown

My wife and I stayed at this hotel in March 2008 for approximately 10 days. The hygiene at this hotel is dodgy at best. Management will state that it is done daily, but it is not. The rooms are not vacuumed, the bathroom is not cleaned properly (hair in bathtub daily), the kitchen is dusted (not cleaned) after the bathroom … with the same rag, and there were silverfish in the room (kitchen and bathroom).

When confronted with the problems, the General Manager acted very defensively, and promised to investigate ‘if asked nicely’. The General Manager is NOT an asset to this hotel. She has no sense of customer service or people relations. She could use a lot of training.

After her investigation was complete, she gave us a 25% discount for one night and promised to have hygiene restored. Again, out of the goodness of her heart. Following her investigation, ‘gift’, and promise to ensure that the hotel standards of cleanliness would be enforced, there was still hair in the bathtub … on the very same day. Finally, the Housekeeping Manager had to resort to cleaning the room personally, and was embarrassed by the whole situation (very nice and personable lady, by the way, an a REAL ASSET to the hotel).

On the upside, the property is very conveniently located for anyone wishing to be in Downtown Vancouver. As well, the front desk personnel were generally pleasant to deal with and very helpful.
