“great location”

We were in Vancouver for 3 nights. Had a hard time finding 2 hotel rooms on the weekend. The Sands had 2 rooms. We were very pleased. Yes, it is expensive and like the other reviewer said, "Vancouver is expensive, get over it!" Our room was roomy and we appreciated the sink outside of the bathroom. We saw no bedbugs and the maids cleaned up the room everyday and changed the sheets. We thought that having a room overlooking the parking lot ended up being so much quieter than the street side, even though there was no view.
BUT it is the location that is so great. Like everyone stated, literally steps from the great beach at English Bay and we walked the entire sea wall around Stanley park starting from our hotel. It would have been much longer if we had started from a hotel closer to the "downtown" area. There is a Starbucks on the corner and every conceivable restaurant you could want and many dessert stores and pubs too. We never felt unsafe in this area at all. Our weather was nice, high 70's so people were out and this area can be a little crowded with people, but it also makes for interesting people watching.
All in all we thought it was a find. Not a high end place, but a clean, safe, friendly hotel with a great location.

Booked this hotel thruogh fligh centre travel agent.
Good location, stayed three nights. Bed linen did not look as if it had been changed from previous guest. First morning woke with itches and red bites from bed bugs. Noticed another report similar from an earlier guest.

“Marvellous location at English Bay”

This hotel was part of a Canadian Affair package part of which was 3 days in Vancouver. The hotel room was very clean and tidy and very comfortable for a budget - tourist hotel. Facilities were good - restaurant and bar for evening meals and breakfast offered a comprehensive menu which was not a la carte but very substantial. Service in the hotel and restaurant was very good, staff were friendly and attentive. The over-riding benefit of this hotel is its location in English Bay, close to Stanley Park and a short bus or taxi ride to downtown. We felt we had been lucky to stay in this area as so much was going on. I would much prefer English Bay to a city centre location - the sunsets were amazing, the locals friendly and polite and all the young people were a credit to Vancouver - just enjoying themselves without any trouble, swearing or drunkedness - what a treat for Brits!

“Great location, friendly staff”

Best Western Sands by the Sea

Booked this hotel after research on Trip Advisor, and were not disappointed. It's in a great location, just a short walk from the beach and Stanley Park. We loved this area so much that we spent all our time (2 days) here and didn't get to downtown Vancouver because the weather was so fine. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean, comfortable and spacious. There are plenty of good restaurants close to the hotel. Highly recommended.

“Not worth it.”

Best Western Sands by the Sea

Washington
Jul 14, 2008

We walked in that day looking for something along Davie Street. We were quoted $199 (I knew prices would be high being peak of tourism)

The room was clean but the air conditioner barely worked. We were hot all night long. The front desk staff were rude from the time we check in until the time we left. This is a stripped down very basic hotel, needs a makeover. There is no ice machine on our floor so we were told either go up or down a level to get ice. Kind of annoying but again not a big deal.

For $200 down the street our friends got a MUCH nicer "posh" place with great views.

I would have been ok with this place for maybe $100 but definitely not 200.

I won't stay here again, mainly because of how rude the people were when we mentioned the air conditioner--they were robotic, unapologetic and seemed annoyed from the minute we checked in until the second we left.
