“Romance with a fun & unique flair”

Pacific Palisades Hotel - a Kimpton Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Vancouver, BC
Aug 22, 2008

I love this Vancouver hotel for romantic getaways. The rooms are bright and spacious. They used to offer a wide variety of romance packages and it's a bit disappointing to see they have pared it down to one that is fairly tame. I prefer the variety offered before, especially the racier "Guilty Pleasures" packages.

However, I can't say enough good things about the staff and the space and even the location on Robson Street makes for lots of opportunities for urban fun.

    • Disliked — The fact they have tamed down their romance offerings

Dear CanuckRover,

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your review of the Pacific Palisades Hotel on Trip Advisor.

I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us and thank you for your kind words regarding the staff. This is my first year at this hotel and I am not too familiar with the packages you are referring to. But you have my word that I will investigate and see what we can do about re-introducing past, more popular romance packages.

Please come and stay again soon.

Yours sincerely,

“Wondeful hotel in downtown Vancouver”

Pacific Palisades Hotel - a Kimpton Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada
Aug 18, 2008

I booked a suite at the Pacific Palisades because I was attending a conference held in downtown Vancouver. A friend from Vancouver picked me up at the airport, and stayed with me during my 4 days at the hotel. The suite was larger than I had expected ... we had a full kitchen, dining area, separate living room with a sofa that turned into a pretty comfortable bed, plus bedroom and bath. Everything was very clean and attractively decorated. The kitchen was very well stocked; we could have easily held a dinner party there. The bedroom had a walk-in closet with an interior light -- a really practical idea. Bathroom was clean and attractive. No where did we find any peeling wallpaper, damaged baseboards, or other problems mentioned in some reviews. They must have fixed those problems.

The room was full of natural light. The balconey ran the full width of the kitchen and living room. I suppose we could have used the AC, but we had the patio doors and windows open most of the time. Yes, it does let the street noise filter in, but after an evening of dining out and enjoying a glass of wine, I had no problem sleeping.

The swimming pool and jacuzzi area was great. The pool is exactly the right temperature. The staff in reception, the concierge, and other staff we spoke to were all very friendly and helpful. Excellent, really, and obviously took great pride in the hotel property.

One really nice feature -- one that I did not know about until we checked in -- was that there is a manager's wine reception every afternoon for an hour, right outside the restaurant in a mini art gallery / lobby area. Nice wine, nice surroundings, great price (no charge!) and no pressure to dine in the restaurant after. Just a really nice extra touch at the Pacific Pallisades that will certainly influence me to return there whenever I return to Vancouver.

“Good Choice for Families”

Pacific Palisades Hotel - a Kimpton Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Washington DC
Aug 13, 2008

We booked the Kimpton for the night before a cruise to Alaska, and had a very pleasant stay. The suites are really spacious, with a large living area and separate master bedroom as well as small kitchen area.

The location is good too-- the hotel is a stone's throw from Robson street, which has tons of shopping and restaurants, and a short walk from the waterfront. In addition, the major cruise dock is only a short cab ride away.

That said, the rooms do need some renovation: the wallpaper is starting to look a bit worse for the wear (stained and faded in some places), and the baseboard in our room had mostly fallen off the wall, exposing dirty and dusty vents.

Still, for a lot of space in a convenient location, the Kimpton is a good value.

“Hotel of contrasts”

Pacific Palisades Hotel - a Kimpton Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Nottingham
Aug 11, 2008

We stayed a couple of nights here at the start of our holiday in July having paid $180 plus tax via Priceline - not particularly cheap for Priceline but it was Vancouver where downtown hotels are expensive. We were put in a second floor suite which was enormous - the downside was that that it faced onto a flat roof where the hotels a/c vents roared away 24 hrs a day. As we took sleeping tablets to cope with the jet lag this was not as much of a noise problem as I had feared. However when we checked in we did ask for a quiet room ! The place was clean but somewhat in need of refurbishment and looked well worn with a cover hanging off the room a/c unit , chipped work surfaces in the kitchen and a well marked coffee table. Despite all that, we did like this hotel . I have never stayed in a hotel before with such pleasant staff -every one we came across was genuinely friendly and helpful. In particular trhe concierge was excellent and a mine of useful information. There was free internet and in the morning and free coffee in the lobby. The hotel's Zin restaurant had a superb ham and eggs for $9.Would we stay again? Certainly, but not that noisy room.

“Great family accomadations”

Pacific Palisades Hotel - a Kimpton Hotel

5 of 5 stars
atlanta
Aug 7, 2008

We spent two nights at the Pacific Palisades in July and had a very nice stay. The layout was perfect for our family of 5. My wife and I had one room, and the 3 teenagers had another. The apartment layout was very comfortable. The balconies were a nice addition. The best part of the stay was definitely the hotel employees. I have stayed in hotels all over the world, but I believe the staff at the Pacific Palisades were the most helpful and friendly I have ever encountered. We interacted with 2 different concierges who were superb. I wouldn't hesitate to stay at this hotel again. I loved Vancouver and hope to return soon.

My only suggestion to the hotel is regarding the address on the website. The given address is on Robson St. The actual entrance is on a side street. Since I was using my GPS to find the hotel, I had to circle the area several times to find the entrance. Not a big deal, but they ought to give the other address as well on the site.

By the way, we ate at an excellent restaurant about 3 blocks down Robson, Hapa Izakaya. Relatively inexpensive Japanese tapas. Worth a visit.
