I booked a suite at the Pacific Palisades because I was attending a conference held in downtown Vancouver. A friend from Vancouver picked me up at the airport, and stayed with me during my 4 days at the hotel. The suite was larger than I had expected ... we had a full kitchen, dining area, separate living room with a sofa that turned into a pretty comfortable bed, plus bedroom and bath. Everything was very clean and attractively decorated. The kitchen was very well stocked; we could have easily held a dinner party there. The bedroom had a walk-in closet with an interior light -- a really practical idea. Bathroom was clean and attractive. No where did we find any peeling wallpaper, damaged baseboards, or other problems mentioned in some reviews. They must have fixed those problems.
The room was full of natural light. The balconey ran the full width of the kitchen and living room. I suppose we could have used the AC, but we had the patio doors and windows open most of the time. Yes, it does let the street noise filter in, but after an evening of dining out and enjoying a glass of wine, I had no problem sleeping.
The swimming pool and jacuzzi area was great. The pool is exactly the right temperature. The staff in reception, the concierge, and other staff we spoke to were all very friendly and helpful. Excellent, really, and obviously took great pride in the hotel property.
One really nice feature -- one that I did not know about until we checked in -- was that there is a manager's wine reception every afternoon for an hour, right outside the restaurant in a mini art gallery / lobby area. Nice wine, nice surroundings, great price (no charge!) and no pressure to dine in the restaurant after. Just a really nice extra touch at the Pacific Pallisades that will certainly influence me to return there whenever I return to Vancouver.
