“A good choice”

Sutton Place Hotel Vancouver

4 of 5 stars
Huddersfield, UK
Sep 26, 2008

Booked a grand suite, but due to a flood before we arrived ended up in a luxury one-bedroom suite in the Residence. Unlike other reviewers had no complaints about the bed but the air-con unit on the balcony was noisy and we were near the elevator and had distant rumbling from this into the early hours. A minor irritation. But the suite was great, large and clean, and room-service breakfast (inclusive in our rate) was a treat every day. There are indeed some stairs to descend to get to the pool from the changing rooms but the pool itself was quiet and in a good state of maintenance.

The Sunday Jazz Brunch was very tasty - but the saxophone I had anticipated did not materialize: electric guitar and piano-based group instead.

Would definitely come again but would ask to be away from the elevator.

“Classy, Traditional Hotel”

Sutton Place Hotel Vancouver

4 of 5 stars
Cheshunt, United Kingdom
Sep 23, 2008

I had the opportunity to stay at this hotel for 4 nights, whilst on a business trip to Vancouver

LOCATION

The hotel is located in a central part of downtown Vancouver. The financial district, Stanley Park, the Cruise Ship terminal and Gastown are all within a reasonable walk of the hotel. For those of you planning to shop in Vancouver, importantly, the hotel is located less than a block away from Robson Street, the main shopping strip.

HOTEL - RECEPTION & LOBBY

The reception area and lobby are clean and comfortable with a number of sofas and chairs whilst you wait for someone or even for a short meeting. All are of a good standard. I would say the lobby is a little small for a hotel of this size, so it can get quite busy and crowded at certain points in the day. Reception staff are efficient and polite, and I was on my way to the room in minutes.

ROOMS

I stayed in a standard room. These contain a King Size Bed, writing desk and two chairs. Television is approximately 24 inches and is a CRT style. Bathrooms are marble counters, combined bath and shower unit, and electric point. All decor and furnishings had a somewhat dated feel to them, although importantly, the bed and chairs were very comfortable, and I did not struggle to sleep. Also, very little outdoor noise made its way into the room.

All in all, a hotel that is suitable for both the business and leisure traveller.

“Loved it!”

Sutton Place Hotel Vancouver

Sep 23, 2008

This hotel was booked through Celebrity Cruises. We spent 2 nights here pre-cruise. We stayed in a suite (kitchen, dining area, living area, seperate bedroom w/king bed, bath). The room was very clean and quiet. The hotel staff was responsive to needs, and the concierge was right on the mark with restaurant recommendations. Would definitely stay here again!

    • Liked — It was right downtown, within walking distance of everything we wanted to see.
    • Disliked — the price - although it was included in our pre-cruise package

“Fantastic Experience”

Sutton Place Hotel Vancouver

5 of 5 stars
Sydney
Sep 22, 2008

We had a fantastic one night stay at the Sutton Place Hotel (La Grande Residence) for our anniversary. We arrived after a long flight from Australia with our baby and checked in smoothly. Our room was beautifully decorated and HUGE with balcony overlooking Burrard St downtown. There was a congratulations note from the manager and a plate with two desserts and "Happy Anniversary" and a complimentary bottle of Voss water waiting us in our suite.

We found the hotel to be in a great location downtown, and it was very convenient to have a gourmet IGA market right across the street. Also the funky gourmet hotdog stand "Japadog" right on the street corner, and lovely wine store downstairs.

We felt the suite was very good value for the price (we booked in advance on the hotel's website) and would definitely stay there again.

“A decent hotel”

Sutton Place Hotel Vancouver

3 of 5 stars
England
Sep 21, 2008

Booked this through the sutton website, and by becoming members got a cheaper rate. We stayed in a one bedroom suite for 6 nights. The suite was a good size, with a decent kitchen, and the biggest TV you have ever seen!! The hotel has probably one the best locations in downtown, in that it is right on robson street, and a very easy walk everywhere, plus there is a supermarket right next door, bus stops right outside and the vancouver trolly company also stops right over the road (though I wouldn't rate them very highly, quite often we waited easily 30-45 mins!). The swimming pool is a good size and never really busy, and there is a nice deck with ping pong. The staff were very helpful, and offered all sorts of advice about what to see and do (also told us that the museum of anthropology is closed until next march, which saved us trecking down to the university), and booked things for us - they also give money off coupons, which is very handy! Overall a very pleasant stay in this hotel.
