I was a little nervous before our stay due to some of the less that complimentary reviews on the website but from the second we arrived we loved the Sutton Place.
The hotel’s biggest asset is undoubtedly the staff, who are all friendly, helpful and efficient at all levels – from the front desk staff to the concierge to housekeeping. In particular a mention to the ladies and gent in the Gerard bar, who provide excellent discreet service and have great memories – we visited on Saturday and then again late on Monday night and they remembered that I have mayonnaise with my fries and my husband likes malt vinegar. It really is the little touches like this that make the difference.
Another example of good service and what I can only describe as “a little bit of thought” came on leaving the hotel. We had a late flight and I wanted to get changed after a days touring and shopping. Upon realising this was what I wanted to do the gentleman who brought our bags out of storage ushered me to the front desk where I was given a key card for the spa, where I was able to have a shower as well as get changed. This was a very welcome gesture – I have simply been pointed at rest rooms in the past.
Given that we got a good rate on the hotel website I was expecting a “room with issues”, but we had a great room on the 14th floor with pretty much floor to ceiling windows, with views of the city. There was very little traffic noise despite the location on Burrard Street. The room was immaculately clean and nicely decorated.
The hotel is well located – right by Robson Street and a few minutes walk from the waterfront.
A final mention to the bakery next door which serves great coffee and top notch pastries.
All in all, a great stay.
