“Had a great time but camera was stolen when checkout”

We really had a great time at Dreams. The view was so amazing and the food was really good. However, a bad thing happened to us when our digital camera was stolen from us when we checked out. What happened was that we put the camera in our kid backpack (no lock) and handed it along with other luggage to one of the doormen at Dreams so they could get stored in Dreams's storage while we were waiting for our transportation to the airport. When the transportation came, one of the doormen retrieved our luggage and the backpack and placed them directly into the car. We didn't check (our big mistake) the bags. At the airport, we found out that the camera was stolen when we tried to take a picture at the airport. We contacted Dreams but they couldn't find the camera as they said that there was no proof that the camera was there!!! It's not the camera that we cared about but the pictures (our precious memories) also got lost. So be careful when you have to keep your stuffs it Dreams' storage.

“I cannot believe how great my vacation was!!!”

Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa

Before I left for my trip I was a reading all the reviews and the negative ones left me wondering how the hotel would be!!
I loved my trip!! The staff was excellent and very friendly! You have to keep in mind that you are surrounded by the ocean so it will get to be damp from the wind blowing the salt air!! The food, the staff, the accomodations etc... were great. All the staff greated us, by name, everyday and could not be any more welcoming!! We went to the spa twice and Adrian, the front desk employee, was great! Please belive me, you will not go wrong visiting Dreams!
We also loved!! Gloria at the front bar. She was the most caring and wonderful person. We went with a party of 12 ages 2-72 and we all had a wonderful time!!!!

“Lovely resort - shame about the food”

Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa

My partner and I stayed at the resort for 2 weeks - the resort was beautiful. We paid the extra for a dolphin view room which had fantastic views! Our flight was delayed on the way over so was looking forward to the promised cold towel & glass of champagne on arrival - it didnt happen :(

The room was lovely - the mini bar had beers, water & sorft drinks (no snacks) & was replenished every day. The grounds were immaculately kept & staff were very friendly...our only problem with Dreams Cancun was the food. The breakfast was lovely - we had fresh omelettes every morning, the lunch was nice too. Unfortunately, the dinner options weren't so great. We went to Oceana alot of the time but even that was only so-so. One night i had the clam chowder & its lterally tasted & looked like canned chicken soap with 2 clams floating in it. My partner got salmon stuff with shrimp...when it arrived - no shrimp! It was fine for steak, but i was dissappointed by the fish & seafood selection they had.

Himitsu was worse - my boyfriends teryikai salmon was nice but I got seafood yaki soba & it was literally 2 shrimp with soft soggy noodles in gravy :(

we went on the lobster cruise which was excellent & then ate out in Captains Cove restaurant - best crab legs Ive ever had!!

Dreams is a fabulous resort - or at least it will be when they do something about their restaurants. Service was excellent - even better when u tip a dollar or 2 :)

“very nice, but not 5*”

Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa

i am writing thsi review as i used this website before my holiday. i was very happy with this hotel, and i will seperate each section to give you an good review:

ROOM: after we had to move due to the 'ocean view' (turned out to be a load of trees), and only one kingsize bed (i'm telling you you do not want to see that when sharing with your brother!) anyways we went to reception and they moved us no problem. the new room was brilliant, with an amazing dolphin view. i was very happy with the new room, although it certainly wasn't 5*, witht he tv being old, beds etc. 3 or 4/5

FOOD: food very average, not enough variety if i'm going to be honest. the world cafe was only good for brekkie and lunch, dinner was not so good. the seaside grill was nice, although it was a bit windy. the oceania restaurant was too full of seafood and fish, and as i'm not a lover of it, had to settle for the chicken, which was very nice. didnt visit the himitisu restaurant but the eople i was with went and enjoyed it. but one thing i would recommend is the room service and pool side food, the burgers are very nice!! 3/5

DRINK: these were not 'bottom shelf' as some people have said, the only non-branded spirit i noticed was something in replacement of malibu. but all the time my mum had smirnoff vodka, i had jack daniels and my brother had bacardi. i would say make sure that you ask for that brand instead of just 'vodka & coke' etc. the cocktails were very nice, would recommend a mudslide or mango tango. 4.5/5

ENTERTAINMENT: not alot for my age (18) but the team were great, greeting you all the time, showing genuine concern about how you have been. special thanks goes to freddy (alryt geezer!) and gio (fellow spurs fan!) for organising the night club trips which were excellent and also as my birthday was over there, they decided to embarass me next to the pool by getting everyone to sing happy birthday to me lol. 4.5/5

NOTE: we were over in cancun during tropical storm dolly, and they were excellent during that time, reacted as if nothing serious was happening and were very accomodating.

SERVICE: excellent, cannot be faulted, not expecting a tip all the time, were brilliant could not fault them 5/5

EXCURSIONS: we did swim with dolphins, however went to wet'n'wild instead and enjoyed it thoroughly. also went on a catamaran, which was privately booked and recommended. chitchen itza is a must if you want to see a bit of history. 4/5

CLUBS/NIGHTLIFE: clubs i would recommend are the city and coco bongo. i went to senor frogs but was not overly impressed with it (personal preference). i would recommend going to hooters bar aswell, great fun even for the kids (ranging form 6-11.) 4.5/5

SHOPPING: there are many places to go shopping, with plaza la isla being one of my favourites. if you want more authentic mexican products you can visit the flea market but be warned, they try to hustle you into every shop!! i would definately recommend bartering, even in the more official shops as they always knock comething off for you! 4/5

OVERALL: was a nice holiday, the service was amazing, not as bad as some people make it out to be but certainly not a 5* hotel. would go back to cancun, but not neccessarily to dreams. 4/5

“Just as Expected, Wonderful”

Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa

10/10 found this review helpful

Where to start…..
We had booked this trip with 58 weeks to go, a large party of 18, I have been reading the reviews for a long time.

We made exactly the right choice for our party.

Welcomed with Cold Towels and were checked in so quickly half of us missed the cookies they brought out.

Yes this is an older hotel, and it does show in some areas, particularly the rooms, but the rooms were very clean, with plenty of room for my husband and I and our son, plenty of wardrobe space, but take a few extra hangers along if you want to hang everything. We were in an Ocean Front Room, that we had paid for, our friends ended up with Ocean Front and Dolphin Views that they hadn’t asked to upgrade to! Other friends were not happy with the view, and they were switched the next day, no problems.
The rooms were perfectly fine, not opulent or luxurious, but suitable for what we wanted and were pleasant to spend time in.
On arrival we had a problem with the lock on the balcony door, this was fixed literally within minutes. We also had no robes, again, we asked nicely and got them the next day.
Maid service was good and thorough, we did miss it once, but I think it was because we were in the room when they wanted to come in and they never got back to us.
So for us, the accommodation was good, and any problems we did encounter were sorted out quickly and efficiently. Top Marks.

Pool, again often complained about as being too small. It was smaller than some, but not as small as others. It was big enough for the number of guests and only really got a bit busy during activities such as aqua aerobics or volleyball. The swim up bar was great, as was the service there.

In all bars, premium brands were available, you simply had to ask, the only thing I couldn’t get was Irish Whiskey, (which is probably a good thing!).

As an early riser, the sunbed game dosent really bother me. Around the pool was the busiest area, Some mornings there were seats available all day, other days were very busy and there wasn’t a sunbed to be had around the pool by 9.00am. The staff were good though, they would find beds for you and also parasols and move them to where you needed them. (The parasols are really heavy don’t try and move them on your own!), around the lagoon and on the beaches there were plenty of chairs available all day.

Also as an early riser, I was very pleased to find take away coffee available at World Café from 6.30am, the bars don’t open until 10.00am around the pool, although the waiters come around with trays full of bottled water from approx 9.00am. I would just take a couple of bottles of water from the mini bar with me in the mornings.

Our first couple of days were spent with Tropical Storm Dolly, the wind and rain came in around noon on our first day, the staff were very busy clearing away the sunbeds, bins anything that wasn’t permanent. They provide a rainy day activity program if that’s your thing but we went out shopping and bowling. The hotel left us a note to explain what was happening and were good at keeping us updated. The kids carried on playing in the pool and Jacuzzi through most of it except the very worst of the lightening.

The restaurants were good, World Café was excellent for breakfast, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs was my favourite, also omlettes, fried eggs, juices and smoothies, usual bacon sausages, pancakes and pastries, and the good old Mexican favourite refried beans. Can’t quite handle them for breakfast. You could also get foil and take away boxes at World Café if you were going out for the day, this was really handy.

Seaside Grill, we only had lunch as we had kids and it is adult only in the evening. The lunch was very good.
Himitsu was excellent, the sushi was freshly made to order and the other dishes were all really good. Now the night we ate here was the first time we really saw any mosquitoes. After the storm it had remained quite breezy and this was the first night that there was no wind. They all seemed to come out of the bushes with their napkins on. The hotel was great and provided insect repellent spray for the guests and came over and asked if you needed any. A great response to a problem out of their control.
Oceana, Had some really nice meals in here, not really a big fish eater, but enjoyed the Tuna and the steak, had a shrimp and fish tournado thingy which was presented beautifully, it was nice but a bit fishy for my taste. Had fantastic Crème Brulee, which I don’t even like usually.

Paloma Bonita, this is the Mexican restaurant outside the resort, Dreams guests get 20% discount. Get your voucher off the Bell boy before you go.
We had a wonderful night here, the service was lovely and we allowed the waiter to select our starters for us. They made a great effort with the kids and we all really enjoyed it.

Lobby bar could sometimes get a little stuffy in the evenings, we preferred to sit on the terrace but there are only a few seats, could have done with more. Our favourite bar was the “swing” bar right by the beach.

Food and drinks service around the pool was fantastic, I didn’t even order a drink sometimes, the waiter would just bring me a Corona and a water without asking, of course it would be rude not to drink it! Cocktails were good, there wasn’t an official cocktail list, you got the cocktail of the day on the sundial (daily newsletter), and the rest was a case of I’ll try what hes having. Mudslides were my favourite, just tasted like chocolate milkshake. They also did non alcoholic versions for the kids. They offered a limited menu of club sandwiches, burgers or hotdogs around the pool, which were fine if you couldn’t be bothered getting up and going to one of the restaurants, sometimes they also set up something on the lagoon beach, like a BBQ or Paella.

We tipped often because we appreciated the hard work and the good nature of the staff. We were never made to feel as though we were expected to.

We did have some problems with the room keys, which were again attended to quickly and efficiently.

Location is excellent, easy walking distance to various distractions, also easy for getting taxis as there is a rank right next to the hotel.

Didn’t try Azucar as we had the kids.

Explorers Club was great for the kids. As my son is a little older you could sign him in on a come and go option which was great. He could go and join in the football or tennis for example when he felt like it and when there wasn’t anything happening he fancied he would come back to us at the pool.

Security staff were friendly, and were quick to subdue any noisy or disruptive guests, again out of the hotels control, but an issue that has been mentioned before, we couldn’t fault them in this area.

Entertainment team were exceptionally good. We didn’t really use any of their services, but they would come around and talk to you each day, let you know what was happening, ask if you wanted to get involved, if you didn’t then no worries, no pressure at all. Some of our party went to clubs with them and would really recommend this rather than going on your own.

The hotel is more compact that it appears on the maps, we found it ideal to sit by the pool, the kids could go to the pool / ping pong room, football pitch, swimming pool, lagoon beach, Jacuzzi, bungee and explorers club and they were all within shouting distance you only needed to go with them if they wanted to go to the beach to do some kayaking or go on the pyramid.

This hotel is not the Ritz. It is an older property, but it has a lovely warm atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable and relaxed, the staff are wonderful and work really hard.
If you go to this hotel bearing this in mind you will not be disappointed.

If I haven’t covered something you wanted to know, drop me a pm.
