This resort is awfu! The staff is unfriendly and dishonest. The price they quoted us changed when we got there and they said, " Oh prices subject to change it what it says in fine print on the internet." No apologies. We all got food poisoning. All four of us were sick for two weeks when we got home. we went for a wedding and the brides brother was so sick he had to get on antibiotics right away. The wedding planner was also very unfriendly. The staff didn't keep people from the aisle where the bride walked down so in her pictures its the bride, her dad, and fat hairy men in flip flops going back to her hotel room. The judge that performed the ceremony was very unprofessional dressed in a very low cut shirt she also showed up late! One last thing "dreams" gave away the bride and grooms honeymoon suite so when they went to check in it wasn't available! Even though they had booked it and paid for it! Awful experience!

“100% the best wedding and honeymoon!!!”

Dreams Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa

After carefully researching various resorts in Mexico I chose Dreams PV for my wedding and honeymoon. I could not have made a better choice! It was 100% the perfect wedding/honeymoon for my husband and I. The staff at Dreams went above and beyond to make our stay so special. There were some reviews on this site that made us nervous but for us we had a fantastic time!

We stayed August 3-10 in the preferred tower honeymoon suite with jacuzzi. No one received a champagne glass and cold towel upon arrival while we were there, I don't know if they still do that anymore. Upon arrival we had a fruit basket, flowers, and a personal card wishing us a happy honeymoon. The maid service in our room was great. Several days we did not get turn down service at night (fresh towels and chocolates), this was not a big deal to us. We did not have bathrobes in our room upon arrival so we called the front desk, and they immediately brought them to us. Our first night the hotel brought us a bottle of champagne......at 2am in the morning. I have no idea why so late?? We were already asleep. We just went back to sleep and drank it the next day. We tipped the maid a few dollars the majority of the week. We did not tip her the day before and day of our wedding (we just forgot in the craziness of the big day). We still had great service regardless of the tipping. We have towel animals made up on our beds daily, including special wedding swans with one swan in a bride outfit made out of tissues on a bed of rose petals with romantic music playing from our tv. Too cute!

The food was excellent. Portofina (Italian) was our favorite restaurant. The service in all the restaraunts is wonderful. The waiters really go above and beyond to make your meal memorable. Such as writing your names in the dessert with frosting, sauces, etc. Our first meal in Portofino I had drank my water pretty fast because I was so dehydrated and I asked for another glass of water, they felt bad that I even had to ask to have my glass refilled instead of them not noticing first that they brought us a complimentary bottle of expensive champagne. I was shocked, since I hadn't even waited long for a refill on my water glass. We had that type of service at all the restaurants just completely above and beyond to make everything perfect! We made friends our first night with our waiter at Portofina, then we ended up coming back to eat 3 more times that week because he was such a great waiter to us. He took care of our wedding guest the night of our wedding, and brought us premium drinks and appetizers that were not on the menu. He was so nice, he came out of the restaurant one afternoon just to talk to us when we walked by. My least favorite restaurant was the Mexican food place El Patio. The food was just good, nothing spectacular. The drinks were super strong! They definitely do not water down the drinks at this resort. We had ordered one round of tequila shots for our table (4 people all together) and our waiter brought us a premium bottle of tequila silver to our table and left it with us. We thought that was nice of him to bring us the "special" tequila. Oceano and Season were fabulous also. We ate at the World Cafe everyday for breakfast. It's the typical all-inclusive buffet breakfast. The waiters are so nice, by the end of the week they knew us all by name. I would not eat at the World cafe for lunch though, the restaurants are a much better choice. Our favorite bar was Rendezvous. It's a great place to meet a group before dinner or have an after dinner drink. Desires the sports bar was awful! I have been to some very smoke filled bars before, but this was the smokiest bar I have ever been too!! I lasted about 10 seconds and then we went to Rendezvous. Room service is good, although it takes about an hour to get your food. We had the romantic private beach dinnner at Seaside since it came iwth our wedding package. I would recommend you go after 8pm, it's just too bright and the sun is right in your eyes anytime before 8pm.

The pools and beach were great! The beac is raked every morning, and is kept super clean. We mainly hung out in the infinity pool, which is the adults only pool. It can get a little crazy and wild in there, considering it's right next to the bar. One late afternoon we left the pool and went to the beach because there were a little too many drunk people in the pool. There are so many different things to do at the resort that it was not a problem. If you want a hut on the beach it's best to throw a tower on the chair before breakfast. Although if you did not there were always plenty of chairs and huts later in the days, they just were farther down the beach. The waiters would frequently ask you if you wanted anything to drink. The one downside is you cannot order any type of snacks at this resort from the pool or beach. You can only eat in the restaurants or from room service. I would definitely recommend the kayak tour down the coastline. It was such a blast, and a great work out! :) The ocean is super clear and very calm. The water is just as blue at the pictures on the website. I was sure that they had enhanced them. On all my wedding photos everyone always asks me if the water is enhanced, but it's just looks that gorgeous naturally. We went jet skiing 3 times, and it was such a blast. If you have the money it's worth it! $70 for two people for an hour. So much fun!!

We went to the PV town and markets. It was neat to see the Catholic church and some of the sites. I have been to Mexico many times and love seeing what I can find and bargain at the markets, but in PV I would not waste your time in the markets. I was shocked by how rude some of the shop owners were. The prices were outrageous and they did not want to bargain with you. The prices of some of the sterling silver jewelry was more expensive than Tiffany's sterling silver in the states. I thought maybe it was me since I do not speak Spanish, but my husband is half Cuban and speaks Spanish fluently, and they weren't even very nice to him.

The hotel activities were fun and the shows at night looked good. Usually we would just peak in on the shows and then go eat dinner. There was just so much to do it was impossible to fit everything in during the week. We booked an ATV excursion for our wedding group. It was such a blast! If you have time definitely go on this excursion.

The spa was good, nothing fancy or spectacular but we are in Mexico! We received a complimentary couples massage with our wedding package. We could not have it outside on the balcony since it was raining, so they just had us in two seperate room with the door open in between. So, it didn't really feel like a couples massage but we were so relaxed it didn't matter. I had my nails, hair, and make-up done in the salon for my wedding. I was super nervous about having my hair done, but it was beautiful! I brought a picture of the hairstyle I wanted she looked at it for 30 seconds then went to work and created something 10 times more beautiful but similiar to the picture.

Bugs- this is for anyone who is nervous about bees or mosquitos. Mosquitos and bees love me. I did not get bitten by one mosquito, not even in the rainforest on the ATV excursion. I am highly allergic to bees and have to carry an epi pen with me. I was nervous about the bees after reading some reviews. There are bees around the bars and the drinks at the beach. They are not aggresive, and I did not get stung once. Which is suprising because bees just go after me and I have been stung 9 times.

Things I wish I would have known before I went.....Ladies, don't even both curling/straightening whatever you do to your hair. It falls after about 30 seconds upong leaving your room. It's not worth it. It's hard to walk in heels around the resort with the uneven rocks, wood, etc. Portofino does enforced the dress code for men (no shorts). It's hard for things to dry such as your swimsuit cover ups, bathing suits. Bring extras! Tipping does not make a difference is service. It's great regardless if you tip or not. The walls are super thin, if you need quiet at night to sleep bring ear plugs. We could hear everything going on in the room next to us, not a problem for us but it could be for someone who is a light sleeper. The balcony railing did not seem to be the sturdiest thing in the world. I put my hand on it, and a huge railing piece broke off in my hand and fell from the penthouse floor. Super dangerous, it could have killed someone if it would have hit them.

Wedding tips- My husband and I had a symbolic wedding at Dreams. Which does not require a blood test. He is a doctor and I am a nurse practitioner, and there was no way a needle was going in our arms in Mexico!! If you really don't have to have a legal Mexico marriage don't. From what I heard from other people having a legal marriage. You spend a half a day in a Mexican pre-marital workshop, and you have to pay extra for a translator even if you are fluent in Spanish. Then you have to arrange your own transportation to a hospital to have blood work done for your marriage. It sounded like you wasted some vacation time by doing this.

“Pretty Nice Honeymoon”

Ok, my new husband and I went for our honeymoon October 5-10th. I have mixed reviews.

Rooms- The room wasn't that great. Although it was roomy and had a beautiful view (we were in the old tower), it was kind of outdated, and not giving off that crisp, clean, plush look. We wanted to upgrade, but the new tower was under renovations. Also, the A/C just was not working like it should. The nights were a little uncomfortable because we both like it very cold at night. We were told all the rooms were the same, and that when they started the renovations on the new tower, it affected the A/C in the old tower.

Food- I thought the food was great. I definitely liked it being all-inclusive. We had appetizers, entrees, and desserts for every meal. We ordered room service a few times (we really liked the room service breakfast). Sometimes the chips were stale tasting, and a few of the dishes were a little too 'gourmet' for us. Oh... and the steaks were always red/pink. But overall the food was amazing. The 'Tres Leches' dessert in El Patio was especially yummy. The drinks were better depending on what bar and who made them. We drank lots of coronas (can't go wrong there).

Puerto Vallarta- Ok... well... we didn't realize it was rainy season. But it poured almost every day. Our 'rhythm of the nights' excursion was cancelled. That was really a bummer because we were really looking forward to it. The streets have horrible drainage. And even the restaurants were flooding around the resort when it poured. But luckily it was only in the evenings and we had sunny days on the beach and in the pools. The days were hot and VERY HUMID but were beautiful. We did the Los Veranos canopy tour. AMAZING. Very fun. And we played with the monkeys after. So cute. We drove through the city a few times, but never really stopped and walked around.

Overall, everyone at Dreams was very nice and accommodating. I would vacation there again but only if it wasn't during rainy season (or when it is so humid), and if we could stay in a suite or in the new tower.

“Happy honeymoon”

Dreams Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa

Oct 9, 2008

My new wife and myself went to Dreams for a fortnight at the end of Sept for our honeymoon and had a great time. I'd been on one all inclusive before and was a little wary but the pictures on here and elsewhere all looked so good so we took the plunge.

On the whole Dreams is brilliant. The staff are amazingly helpful and friendly (even if you don't tip) them and the facilities are really good. There's plenty of sun loungers round the pool and on the beach and the bar staff are continually coming round to offer you a drink.

The rooms are nice - we had a double deluxe and it was more than adequate. Daily maid service, clean sheets everyday and excellent A/C which was very welcome in the humidity.

On to the food: breakfast is served in the buffet style Wotrld Cafe restaurant and was on the whole pretty good. You could get any style of breakfast you liked and lots of it too, with a lovely view of the beach.

We often had lunch in the world cafe too as it was close at hand and did a good range of food. We went once to Oceana but felt it was almost a little OTT for lunch.

Dinners were in Oceana or Portofino which on the whole were great and lovely not to be presented with a bill at the end of the meal. My one complaint is that the food, while impressively presented and certainly tasty, did not seem like it was that freshly cooked - almost as if it was on a factory production line in the kitchen. The way the restaurants work is they have a menu with perhaps 5 or 6 choices per course and I think these dishes (or at least parts of these dishes) are all ready prepared in the kitchens. I don't know why but the food didn't have that "just out of the oven/off the grill" look and taste to them. You know when you order a steak in a good restaurant it comes to your table and it's almost sizzling still, some of the oil/fat is bubbling on it? Well, at Dreams the taste was pretty much the same but it didn't have that "out of the oven and on to your plate" feel to it. I'm being pretty picky but just want to be honest too.

On the whole though we had a great time. The sand on the beach is lovely and clean, the water, while not crystal clear, is clean and warm too...almost too warm! The pools are clean and there's a nice choice of a main one, a shady one and the infinity pool which is adults only. My one gripe about the pools is that the hotel should impose a no smoking rule on people in them - it's one thing to be in a pool with a cocktail in your hand but a fag?!?

The hotel laid on entertainments every night which to be honest were pretty crumby - the best was the mexican fiesta which was pretty good but you certainly couldn't fault the staff for not trying and being friendly and happy too.

We did go out into the town a few times to try it out.
Puerto Vallarta is a somewhat strange place. The restauranteurs seem to think that people coming all the way from Europe or America don't want to eat Mexican food and actually want to eat European or American food. As a result the majority of the best restaurants seem to serve haute cuisine which wasn't what we wanted. We wanted enchiladas, fajitas etc etc and actually - believe it or not - had to look pretty hard to find them. Having said that I can heartily recommend La Dolce Vita on the Malecon.
There's some pretty big, lively looking bars on the waterfront but as we were slightly out of season these weren't too busy but certainly looked fun.

Back to the hotel one thing I want to say is that there's not A/C in all the restautants and bars as some of them are open plan. I hear that this may be being changed but not for the time being.

So, to sum up, if you want good but not gourmet food, as much drink as you can handle, extremely friendly staff, lots of (humid) sunshine and a nice beach then this is the place for you.
If you want food "like mama makes it", no Americans, and authentic meals at Mexican restaurants then I'd look elsewhere.

Knowing what I now know about Dreams Puerto Vallarta I'd go back so that must say something!!!

We stayed at Dreams for our honeymoon from Sept. 14-18th. It was absolutely WONDERFUL! We were not able to stay in our Junior Jacuzzi Suite because of renovations but the Dreams staff gave us several offers as an apology. The resort was very laid back and relaxing when you wanted it to be but also had lively areas when you wanted to be a part of the fun! The staff was extremely attentative to our needs and was extremely helpful. The resort itself is immaculate and spotless. Our room was cleaned twice a day and was beautiful. The restaurants were great and the food was excellent. We never waited long for drinks or food in any restaurant or bar area. The shows at night were definitely not to be missed. We would LOVE to return to this resort for our anniversary or just because. Dreams made this an absolutely perfect honeymoon!
