“LOVED IT!”

Dreams Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa

My husband and I stayed at Dreams for our honeymoon, September 22, 2008 – September 28, 2008. We absolutely loved it and would recommend it to all honeymooners! Make sure you call in advance to let them know you are honeymooners, they will put a cute sign on the door, a bottle of champagne in your room along with a fruit trey!

FOOD
Fantastic! We ate at all the restaurants and each was fantastic. We loved the Italian place, we went twice. The breakfast and lunch buffet at World Café were great, nice variety. The day we got there our waiter was so fantastic at World Café that we asked to be seated in his section each time we ate there. He was great. We tipped him about $3 to $5 each meal, they deserve it. I recommend tipping at each meal. Room service was very quick and very good. We went deep sea fishing one day, and brought back what we caught. Gave it to the chef at the Italian place, they cooked it up for our dinner that night and it was absolutely amazing.

DRINKS
Were good. We enjoy wine more than mixed drinks, and the house wine was pretty painful as well as the champagne. But we drank very good margaritas and dirty monkeys during the day, and purchased bottles of wine at night. You must try the dirty monkey, it’s like a milkshake! SO GOOD! Also, if you like coffee, get the “Mexican coffee” after dinner. It is quite a presentation and very very delicious. But it is very hands on, so only order it if you will drink it!

ROOM
We originally booked a room in the new tower, however it is being renovated. So they put is in the old tower upon check in. To compensate, they gave us a free 6 night, 7 day certificate to be used sometime in the next year! All we have to do is pay for our plane ticket. VERY worth it! We are already planning our next trip! So the room was okay for our standards. It is a little dated, and we got a 6 inch balcony staying in the old tower. The room never got as cool as I’d like, it was kind of damp and humid. The bed was hard, although I think that is common in Mexico. The elevators were slow, but that was a good thing! We needed to walk off all that food and drink! The room was cleaned each and every day we were there.

STAFF
Was abousluety fantastic. Everyone was so friendly! Definitely give tips at each meal, $3-$5 should be good.

POOL/BEACH
We didn’t hang out at the pools at all. We stuck to the beach, and the waiter there was great. Get in good with him and he’ll keep the drinks flowing. There aren’t many beach chairs (there are a lot of laying down ones) and the chairs were the good ones. So you have to get there early to get the chairs. When at the beach, we only tipped once, right before we left.

WEATHER
It is the rainy season, so each day it did rain. But the rain started at about 4 or 5pm, the same time we’d go in to get ready for dinner anyway. So it wasn’t a bad thing for us. During the day it was nice, hot and sunny. What you would expect at Mexico.

TOWN
It’s only a $5 cab into the town. Go to PiPi’s (pronounced Pee Pees) It was so good! Mexican food. If you go, definitely get the guacamole and margaritas. If I could do it again, we would get one guac for an appetizer, then share the supreme fajitas and get another order of guac. The guac was to die for. The potion size here is HUGE. And the margaritas are just as big. After one each, we were a little buzzed!

AIRPORT
When going to Dreams, take YELLOW CAB, not the white. The white charge more, you’ll have to wait in the line at the airport to speak with someone behind a desk to get the yellow but ti’s worth it. The white ones are outside waiting, but don’t take them. A cab ride to the hotel should ONLY BE $15. We paid $28 and got ripped off! There are lots of people trying to sale you on timeshares and activies when you are exiting. Don’t make eye contact, just keep walking though. Trust me!

All in all, we loved it and are very much looking forward to going back next year!

Okay, our 36th anniversary.......Sept.14- 21st,08. Went last year and greeted with cool towels and champagne! ( No more champagne or towels.) Met the General Mgr. Mr Tirado. now we booked 7 nights again out of LAX. We called 2 times long distance asked if there were any renovations or changes, they said no........we only changed the bedding in the main building and we are done. We e-mailed Mr. Tirado and said our 'Special day ' was our reason for the trip and HE promised to get us a great room. Which he did, it was very nice.......a plate of fruit and a bottle of bubbly!!!!! That's not the point, we check in and the guy at front said sorry but the WHOLE building next door is CLOSED, the SEASIDE oceanfront rest. CLOSED, the SPORTS BAR, CLOSED for good. The Snack bar on the beach CLOSED. BAR on the Beach CLOSED, had to call Mgmt. for drinks! PLEASE understand we only expected at least the same as last year.........Now for $2,000 grand wouldn'T you ???????

NOw the great part was my husband and I tried to make the best of our trip. In fact we even got to meet the HGTV star KIM MYLES and her hubby SCOTT.....We sent them a botlle of champagne (Carlos, Mgr.) helped us out.! (Designer lady, of show "Myles of Style") ALL the employees go way way beyond the call of duty to make you happy, most of them remembering us from last year. We Tip' very well even though tips are included, we even were invited to the home of one of the bartenders!!!!!! We tookd him to lunch outside on his day off. Now come on ......Can't the Mgmt. make it nicer for the patrons???? You know my husband and I are retired and lived on a very limeted budget...........we saved all year for this trip and we feel that al the very least they should have told the TRUTH,,,,,,,,maybe we could of went at a later date! Now our best freinds are going in 2 weeks and have no idea, we tried to explain but ???? that's 5 people........Ok write me if you need more info....the emplyees are the GREATEST......

“Excellent service and hospitality”

My wife and I came here for our honeymoon. This place was fantastic, rooms were clean and the food was excellent. During the month of september they have turtle releasing which was awesome. Everyday they have a new drink of the day, whether it be alcoholic or non. There service staff was very friendly and helpful and the room service food was actually quite good. There are plenty of activities going on all day long. I recommend this place highly i will be staying there again in the future

“great location, pros/cons on hotel”

So there are some good and not so good things about the dreams resort in PV, so let's start with the good. The location is fantastic, only a $5 cab ride to town, so while the all inclusive option is great, I still like to go to town and explore which was a very easy and quick thing to do.

At the resort itself, the common areas were nice, restaurants, pool, and beach were all very nice. The buffet was especially good for breakfast and lunch. The pool and beach were comfortable places to lay in the sun, no problems there.

The down side, number one the service left a little to be desired. they weren't exactly waiting by to bring you another drink at the pool, had a bit of attitude by some, not all, of the wait staff at the bars, and in the evening foud it difficult to find drinks / food outside of room service. The rooms themselves were a bit run down and out of date, though one of the towers was closed completely wihle they remodeled so seems they are doing the right things to spruce up the place.

All in all a decent place, service was probably the biggest issue, but I would stay again as the location was perfect.

“Great Staff, Dated Hotel”

Visited Dreams for 8 days in September 2008.

First off, regarding the location-I was unaware how rainy it really was during Low - Season. It rained all day for 5 out of the 8 days and rained for at least 3 hours each day on the other days. It was also EXTREMELY hot. Humidity was next to unbearable. Which played a part in the overall comfort level of the rooms. I am sure this also played a part in my view of the overall trip.

The hotel is very dated and was unaware that half of the resort was being renovated during our stay. Pools are old, rooms are plaster, and the beach is just okay.

Service is fantastic. Drinks are always plentiful and only a second away. Wait staff is friendly and generous.

The three restaurants in the resort are all good. Oceana, the seafood place, was our favorite. Entertainment is seriously lacking in the evenings, compared to previous all inclusive trips.

Daily activities are fun with a great Entertainment team. Yoga and Water Aerobics are daily which is nice if you plan to try to even out the calories.

I gave this resort overall two stars because while the staff was great, the entire resort was really sub-par to what APPLE Vacations rated it. And I have used APPLE many times. I was disappointed.
