“Please read this before you book this hotel!!!”

Club Embarcadero Pacifico

1 of 5 stars
Baldwin City, Kansas
Jul 25, 2008

Knowing this hotel got less than stellar reviews we were looking for value for a large group unfortunately we took the chance.
We had 2 seniors, 2 adults, 6 young adults and a teenager. We booked 5 rooms. We got there and the grounds were nice, pools nice, food okay, rooms HORRIBLE!!!! We were supposed to have 2 rooms with king beds and the others with 2 beds. The 2 king rooms were okay, not what is pictured on the web site! They were terribly run down. The ceiling fans did not work, we had to go buy a $20 fan from wal-mart to survive.
I immediately went to the front desk to get the rooms straightened out for my family that needed the 2 beds per room, to make a long story short, I was up and down the elevator 4 times! 5 rooms later, and in tears I told them I was ready to move to another hotel. Either the rooms smelled or were non functioning. The young adults were just ready to get in a room so I accepted 1 room that had terrible air-conditioning. I finally found the manager; he noticed that I was in tears. He gave us a room with a kitchenette for the seniors in our group at no extra charge. We didn't need the kitchenette it had a refrigerator and stove, but nothing in the cabinets to use, but at least it had 2 beds and a functioning air conditioner. We had to ask for hangers, iron, blow-dryers, and washcloths. Not to mention the tv's had terrible reception, and you had to check out a remote if you wanted one. We didn't get any.
None of the window covering worked properly, they were so old they were worn out. The linens were awful, and very old. The beds did not have box springs! You have to pay $2 a day for the safe lock for your room.
They only changed bedding in our room once the 6 nights we were there. They did not change the kids bedding ever! I made sure we all tipped every day. So that was not the problem.
There was absolutely NO BEACH. The pools were nice. The food and alcohol was okay. The nightly entertainment was good. The staff and waiters were outstanding. It's too bad they don't put some $$ into upgrading the rooms. It is in a sad state. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to my worst enemy. We have been to Cozumel, Cancun, and Puerto Vallarta one other time. So I have stayed in all inclusives, this one is the bottom of the barrel!! There were only 2-3 other American families there. It was mostly Mexican families that stayed there. Not a problem, but I wondered why. The other American families felt the same way. We all encouraged each other to post our reviews.
Spend a few more hundred dollars, don't go here!

“Some good, mostly bad”

I stayed at this hotel for one night only, so I can't say anything about he food. However, the front desk staff was nice, and I got a great first impression. The pool was beautiful and looked clean. However, once I got to my room, I was sorely disappointed! The first problem was the door to the room. It is a cheep wooden door with only a lock built into the doorknob; there was no deadbolt at all. In fact, I left my room, and the lock got stuck, so the hotel desk called maintenance. It took the guy no more that 1 minute using only a screwdriver to open my locked door. Makes you feel safe at night! Also the bed was hard as a rock. I could have sworn that it was just a box spring with sheets on it. The room was clean however. Also, and these are not so bad, but there was no remote for the tv and no clock in the room. Not a problem in you are on vacation, but I was just staying one night on a layover and had to get up at 6 am. The rest of my co-workers all had similar experiences.

“Lots to offer for little price”

We have been staying at this hotel most every year since it was built. After all these years the rooms are in need of updating. The rooms are kept very clean, the staff does a great job! We always leave a couple dollars tip on the bed and the they take even better care of you. We do enjoy the breakfast, lunch and drinks of the all inclusive plan and because it is an economical resort we eat most of our dinners out. We enjoy the Cafe Marina in the morning, we love watching the boats going out of the Marina. The main pool is huge with lots of activities there and the smaller pool. When we need a beach fix we walk over to the villa side. Lovely pools on this side and 2 restaurants. The beach unfortunately was pounded some years ago by a storm and most of it is gone. You can walk on the beach at low tide but at hight tide the water covers what beach there is. If you are a beach person this is probably not the hotel for you although there is an area near the pool with sand. If I were to choose another hotel it would be an adults only as we have been vacationing during Spring Break time, otherwise we always enjoy our stay at the Embarcadero.

“High Expectations? Be careful!”

Club Embarcadero Pacifico

3 of 5 stars

We went to Embarcadero for our 10th anniversary. My wife and I enjoyed our time in Mexico because we got to be together and relax without our kids for a few days. If you are planning on NOT staying at the hotel for most of your visit, this is a good place for you.

The rooms needed a major face lift. The A/C did not work, the cable was fuzzy, and the windows didn't close all the way, allowing the late night noises to be heard. The rooms were cleaned daily, which was nice. Bring your own washcloths, since there are none provided.

The food was just okay. I am a very picky eater, so I had a hard time at the meals. Breakfast was the best, since there was the most variety. The service was excellent. They never let you go thirsty.

There is no internet center! We were told where we could access the internet, but when we tried and asked for assistance, we were told to try tomorrow at 10:00. We did, and still nothing. We eventually found a hot spot in the marina, but we had to pay.

The beach needs some work. It doesn't appear to be maintained at all. The water comes very close to the resort wall and has eaten the first few stairs away. Bring your parachute!

If you're laid back and just want to be at the hotel to sleep, this is the place for you. If you have high expectations, keep looking.

“No major problems”

Club Embarcadero Pacifico

3 of 5 stars
Fargo, North Dakota
Apr 22, 2008

My fiance and I stayed at the resort the first part of March and were not disappointed at all. We arrived early, before check in time, and were given a different room as the one we were supposed to have was not ready yet. The people at the front desk were very nice and we didn't have any problems.

The room was nice, which was kind of a surprise, considering the reviews the hotel has gotten. The bathroom was huge, and the bathtub was to die for. It was very clean...no mold or broken fixtures anywhere. Shampoo and soap were provided, but I did not use them as I had brought my own.

The room was pretty basic, but had everything we needed. There was no remote for the television, but we were in Mexico and didn't intend to stay inside and watch anyway. The bed was very hard and was uncomfortable at first, but after a week at the resort, I was used to it. My fiance did experience back problems after we got home, but he has back problems anyway. The air conditioner didn't really work, but that was fine, as we were only in the room at night; it got cool enough at night to open the windows and let the breeze blow in. The ceiling fan was a big help when the room did get a bit warm (which never really happened).

The pools were very cold, but not to the point where you couldn't use them. The sun warmed them up a bit and after being in them for awhile, you didn't really notice the chilliness. The pool bar was kind of slow as far as service, but the drinks were nice and strong. There is a lack of "beachy" area with sand and what have you, but again, that didn't matter to us because we didn't spend a lot of time at the resort.

The food was not the best, but it wasn't overly terrible. There was the problem of having the same things everyday, but then again, we weren't expecting a five star hotel. The breakfast was the best and it was touch and go with lunch. I don't recommend the hamburgers. I'm not sure if it was the spices they used or the meat, but they were not very good. We didn't eat supper there too many times, as we were usually out and about. The waiters brought us the cappucino we requested on more than one occasion, which was very nice of them.

We didn't look for activities to do at the resort, because we didn't spend a lot of time there. What we saw of the entertainment during the supper hour was lacking in originality, but that might have just been the night we did have a chance to see it.

The experience we had was better than we had expected. We didn't have any problems with staff, things not working in the room, things being stolen, or anything negative. It is an older place, but it is beautiful. We would definitely go back again.
