We stayed at the Grand Mayan 9/19/2008 - 9/25/2008. The hotel is magnificent. The rooms are spotless and the grounds are perfect. We enjoyed the twice daily room service. My only complaint is that we asked for an ocean view room and were told we could move to another room in 3 days but no one ever contacted us again about it. The ocean was surprisingly calm for the Pacific. The beach is great for walking , jogging or boogy boarding. Not good for snorkeling. There were plenty of cabanas and lounges. We had a grand suite which included a kitchen. Bring a small egg pan from home. The cost of the meals are comparable to Disney World prices so go to the Wal-Mart and stock up. The drinks are $7.50 US dollars each. The drink of the day is 2 for 1 and also happy hour is 2 for 1. Bakal Restaurant was closed until November due to off season. Also part of the pool was closed for maintanence. The pool snack bars are great. Our favorite restaurant was the Italian Restaurant located about a mile away by free shuttle. We ate there 2 times. Cafe de Lago in the main building was OK for breakfast (a la carte) but we were disappointed with dinner. The hotel is about 4 miles from the airport and about 40 minutes from Acapulco. Roberto Alarcon was our tour guide and friend for the week. He picked up at the airport and took us to Wal-Mart. He provided us with a great city tour which included lunch at the Cliff Divers . He was very patient with our shopping. He acted as our photographer and took some great pictures. He arranged for a fishing trip for my husband, sorry to report no fish were caught that day. He also took us back to the airport. I would recommend him highly. His email is robertoalrey@yahoo.com.mx. Good luck with your trip.
