My wife and I stayed at the Grand Mayan, Acapulco for our honeymoon in August 2008. The Grand Mayan is one of the nicest hotels in Acapulco according to pretty much every website out there as well as every taxi driver we struck up a conversation with. Speaking of taxi drivers, Roberto Alarcon and his brother are by FAR the best taxi service in town. Roberto speaks perfect fluent English (used to live in So-Cal for a bit), is always available, has a large, clean and safe suburban with AC and leather. Without Roberto our trip would have been a shadow of what it ended up being. Here is is contact info, call or email before you come!!

The resort is setup primarily as a timeshare property, our room was a large and airy 1BR with a full kitchen, den, bedroom w/ jacuzzi, full bathroom with double sinks and large shower. There is also a small unheated plunge pool on the porch that was great for dunking in to start the day or rinse off the beach from the afternoon.
Service was amazing from the minute we arrived to the minute we left. My baggage got lost by air Mexicana on the way down, but the folks at the Grand Mayan were kind enough to phone us when it arrived and promptly brought up to the door.
We enjoyed room service several times. Food was above average, but nothing to get overly excited about. We discovered that the restaurants on site are all buffet oriented, and we didn't want to pay $17 a plate when we were only going to eat a little bit. The room service menu had lots of ala carte options, and the price was pretty standard American rates.
Happy hour at the on site bar proved to be a favorite. We visited from 7-8pm for half price cocktails and managed to meet a couple of other young couples that were on vacation.
A word of note - August/September is rainy season in Acapulco, so if you are considering planning a vacation you should shoot for December onward. We had a couple nights of crazy thunderstorms, lightning and rain. Strangely it always blew over in the night and we would awake to clear skies and warm humid days.
Over all a great experience. We normally lean toward smaller more quaint places, but we utilized our timeshare property this time around and were not disappointed. I highly recommend the Grand Mayan if you are planning a trip to the area, especially if you have a family!
