Does anyone have any suggestions for a place to stay near Swarthmore College? The nearby motels seem to be rated poorly. Thanks.

Unfortunately, there really isn't much nearby. The Media Inn used to be at least decent (never great) but has been on a long downward spiral and I can't recommend it. [Despite my MI address, I grew up near Media and visit family there often.] Can't find any TA reviews of Media Inn, but there are a few scary ones on other sites. It is a shame, because Media is otherwise a nice town.

Howard Johnson in Springfield (about 3 or 4 miles from Swarthmore College) is an OK budget motel.

If you would like a B&B, here is a link to a very nice place that is about a 20 minute drive from Swarthmore: www.hamanassett.com. Hamanassett definiely is worth checking out.

Other than that, your principal options would be one of the many hotels by the airport.

If you go to the Swarthmore College website you'll see "For Visitors" on the left side of the screen. Click it and one of the things that comes up is accomodations. Scroll down to the B&B's and you'll find options in Swarthmore and Media that are better than the local hotels.

I agree with the previous poster. There is a Holiday Inn, which after referburation, is pretty decent. It was terrible at one time, but that has changed. Of course, living in Springfield, it's on the Golden Mile, a lot of traffic and a lot of shopping. It's no more than ten min. from Swarthmore, tops.

Pardon me, that's Howard Johnson's, I'm not awake, so I'll check out for awhile.

If you don't mind a 20 minute ride there's the Wayne Hotel. You can find it in the TA reviews, but only the reviews 2007- are valid, it's been completely renovated. It's recommended as a good place for people to stay when visiting Swarthmore.

They have the Alpine Inn listed in Springfield.Well, the Alpine Inn no longer exists, Howard Johnson's bought it and completely renovated the place, so I agree HoJo is okay.

I just noticed that mistake.
