Hotel with Ocean View |
Hi, Can anyone recommend a 4 star plus hotel with a pool and ocean view? We're a couple in our early 30s that want to find a hotel that does not have too many kids. What would be the best area to stay? It's our first time to San Diego so we'll doing the seaworld, zoo, etc... Thanks! |
WHEN are you coming? IF by 4****+ you mean 5*****then we have very few hotels with that designation. What exactly do you want at the hotel? In my experience, the higher the star ratings the more services you have to pay for yourself. At any rate the only 5 ***** hotel with an ocean view is the Hotel Del Coronado. A 4**** hotel you may like is the Pacific Terrace. I do not think that our other 5*****,the Lodge at Torrey Pines, has ocean view rooms. You might also consider ocean view rooms at La Valencia.
4 star would be okay, we're coming in late Nov. Would it be too cold to swim in a pool?
P.S. Did I forget to mention I'm price conscious? We're looking for something within $200 per night, there are lots of sales going on right now so I don't imagine it would be too hard to find. I want a nice ocean view hotel with a nice pool. Also want a hotel within walking distance to restaurants, shopping, etc. I heard Hard Rock's location is good but seems like been getting bad review for its services...
IMO the Hard Rock has gotten some bad reviews from "tainted" posts meaning the person who made the posts have only 1 posts in their Trip Advisor profile and it is probably to skew the hotels ratings. I have been to the Hard Rock twice to look at large suites for a family get-together and each time the front desk staff was very prompt and helpful. www.travelzoo.com and www.fatwallet.com may have hotel specials for San Diego. I think the Omni(next to the Hard Rock hotel) has room specials for $149/per night in November. The Omni has good bay/harbor views. www.omnihotels.com Have a good trip.
Hard Rock has a good location, but no ocean view. It's downtown where the San Diego Bay is. You may have to raise your budget for what you are looking for. Or try Hotwire. Have you considered the La Jolla area?
WELL no, You didn't mention that you were price conscious soooooooooo IF a view of SanDiego BAY will be considered OK then the Manchester Grand Hyatt is also having sales and it faces the bay. They have corner rooms with great views so ask for one. Have you looked at www.travelzoo.com which shows many of the "deals"going on ?? The hotel pools will be heated and so swimming will be possible. It may be chilly when you get out. The Omni is further back from the bay.

Sorry to say that 4 and 5 diamond properties will be more, much more, than $200 a night. I think the only 5 diamond prop. is The Lodge at Torrey Pines. The following are 4 diamond. Most will not have an ocean view. Not on this list but wonderful is the La Costa Resort and Spa in La Costa/North County San Diego. The San Diego County 4-diamond properties included: * La Casa Del Zorro Resort in Borrego Springs; * Hotel del Coronado, Coronado; * Lowe's Coronado Bay Resort, Coronado; * L'Auberge Del Mar Resort & Spa, Del Mar; * Orchard Hill Country Inn, Julian; * Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa, La Jolla; * Hilton La Jolla, La Jolla; * Hyatt Regency La Jolla, La Jolla; * La Valencia Hotel, La Jolla; * Pala Casino Resort & Spa, Pala; * Rancho Bernardo Inn, Rancho Bernardo; * Rancho Valencia Resort, Rancho Santa Fe; * Manchester Grant Hyatt San Diego, San Diego; * Omni San Diego Resort, San Diego; and * San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina, San Diego.

A very quick search of nicer hotels from their web sights and Travelocity turns up these rates for the end of Nov. Lodge at Torrey Pines $305 night La Valencia ocean view room $320 La Costa Resort $211 Four Seasons $395 La Jolla Shores on the beach,3 not 4or5 diamond, $219 L'Auberge Del Mar, garden room no view $200
We have stayed at the La Jolla Shores Hotel and the Pacific Terrace Hotel. Both are 4 star. We probably preferred the LJS although the staff at the PT were great. Have you considered the Grande Colonial in La Jolla. If we had not been travelling with our children then that is where we would have stayed as it is right in the centre of La jolla Village and also close to the ocean.
I was going to suggest the Grande Colonial too. When I went to check the rates on TA I believe they were an average of around $249. If I remember correctly there is a Hard Rock Cafe in the Village close by. Looks like La Jolla Shores is the closest to your budget. Travel Zoo and Hotwire are good options, though.
