Stayed for 5days at Hotel 17 and would recomend it for location and price. Single rooms are small and basic and these rooms dont have an ensiute or a sink. I cant say i agree with other reviewers about the sharing bathrooms not being a problem. Only 2 showers per floor and having to constanly check to see if their... more

My experience doesn't seem to be representative of other reviews here, but I was disappointed by my stay at Hotel 17. The first room that I checked into had a very noisy pipe right next to the bed, and a noticeable draught coming from the air-con unit in the window. To their credit, the hotel switched my room without any... more

Had to spend a night in NYC, and came here to look at the best deals for value and cleanliness. Having lived or worked in the East Village for five years in the mid 90's, I knew that for under $150 a night staying at the Hotel 17 was going to be a major money-saving coup, and it WAS. The... more

Stayed here last week and would definitely do so again. Booked via the website, called to confirm twice before arrival -fearing the botched reservation stories on tripadvisor- but no issues with my reservation at all so the calls were likely not needed. Convenient, safe eastside neighbourhood. My room 109 was in good shape...very clean & new sink, wall fixtures and... more

Our room had a private bath which was modern and very clean. Quaint hotel on very quiet street centrally located near Union Square suited us perfect. Stayed 6 nites and were very comfortable. The room is one of the smaller ones I have stayed in. Don't expect a fabulous view from the window and the selection of channels from the... more

Indeed, Hotel 17 is cheap. And because of all the raving reviews here, I booked it for me and my friend to stay for four nights. Immediately when we entered we noticed the smell of cigarets. In every hallway there are many ashtrays, inviting people to smoke. I'm not fussy, but find it very strange that no one else would... more

4 of us arrived around 9pm and were back out for 9.30 checked in and unpacked very quick check in.The rooms are very dated and basic but 4 lads on a long weekend trip it was all we needed and compared to most of the other hotels the price was very reasonable for new york. The bathrooms are shared but... more

I recently spent 6 nights at Hotel 17 and had an excellent experience. The hotel is kept very clean (the stairway stank of polish and gleamed when I walked up the stairs) There are shared bathrooms but they are regularly cleaned and I only had one incident where there was water from the shower on the floor (and lets face... more

Unless you're used to 5 star hoels there is no reason in the world to give this place a bad review. Great Hotel, staff and location. I was a little apprehensive of the shared bath but not all the rooms share, some have private so we never had a problem with waiting-it was always spotless. I lived in New York... more
