The reviewers on Hotels.com gave the Standard an 83% approval rating. After staying here, I don't understand why. The hotel is, 'funky' for a lack of a better word. The hallways are narrow, the walls are completely white, and the carpet, which is permeated with the smell of cigarettes, and the room doors are red. Enter the room: Esthetically sterile.... more

Decided I had to write a review on here after seeing some of the mixed ones already posted. I loved the Standard, it has quite a young, funky feel to it. It's pretty modern and minimalist - I noticed some of the other posters didn't like this but I think by the time you've got to the stage of booking... more

This was the most uncomfortable hotel I've ever stayed in. ALL of the beds are on a platform only a few inches off the floor. The matresses are old and the furniture in the room is plastic or laminate. My kids college dorms are furnished nicer that these rooms. There are NO pictures on the wall and in the rooms,... more

So sorry you found the Hotel to be so uncomfortable! We try to help our guests to understand the style of the Hotel, knowing that it will not represent all things to all guests! In this instance our minimalist design in our guest rooms clearly did not agree with you. All of the aspects you describe are true, platform beds,...

This hotel is as the name suggests situated in Downtown LA. The location is two blocks from the Blue Line metro station that connects to all lines so is ideal for those wishing to get around by public transport. It is only a few blocks from the Walt Disney Concert Hall which is superb, in fact the whole artists hill... more

When I pulled into the hotel to Valet my car, I waited for 5 minutes for the valet to come over to my vehicle. When I finally exited the car to approach him, he was chatting with another hotel staff member about a sport event. When I went to interrupt I was told to hold on a minute. I took... more

This represents a terrible experience at any Hotel! I apologize for all of the shortcomings of your stay. We normally provide a much smoother experience although not the most traditional Hotel, we do offer our guests the complete array of expected Hospitality components. It seems we were not on top of our game during your stay. If given the opportunity,...

What’s good about the Standard? The design and style are world class – it’s a cool mix of the ultra-modern with 1950s office block retro, the rooms are minimal and comfy (and quiet when we stayed), and the rooftop bar is worth a visit alone. Plus, the price is pretty good for a boutique hotel. The roof bar and pool... more

A complete disappointment. If you are under 30 and use drugs, this place is for you. An upscale dorm room for sure. The front desk has NO sense of urgency or care. The front desk often had NO ONE behind it. I was there during the earthquake and the service and security was a joke. When asking if one should... more

I booked two rooms for 2 nights for my friends Birthday party. The rooms and pool were wonderful. I loved the decore of the whole place. However our experience was ruined by the DJ Saturday night. Not only was the music dull and hard to dance to but most of the night no one was on the dance floor. When... more

Tired, tired, tired. Rooms desperately need to be refurbished.: get rid of Ozzie Nelson's tv, add at least one comfortable chair. Bathroom is completely nonfunctional (I don't need to see my companion sit on the john). The Rooftop Bar Crowd is decidedly "c" list, front desk unfriendly and sloppy. All this topped off with a generous serving of 'tude from... more

I have been to the Standard downtown LA at least 5 times and I have never been disappointed. The staff is always amazing. They are friendly and helpful. I have brought many different friends here and you don't have to travel far to have a good time. The rooftop bar is a great place and is always a scene. It's... more
