Shambara is surprisingly quiet although it is just off Khao San Rd. The rooms are extremely small and I could only just fit my suitcase in. The showers and toilet were quite clean. It is a good place for a temporary stay, however I think you might go mad from the claustrophobic feeling of the rooms! The outside garden area... more

Wonderful little Hostal in the back of Kao San Road!! Unfortunately we spent at least 1 hour to found the hostel in the beginning - the map-description is a little bit confusing...but then ... we found this unique place in a little "street" 1 second from the Kao San Road! One morning I bought my water in the pyjama;-) Very... more

We paid about $22 for a double room with air con. The room was small but clean, the shared toilet facilites were very good and the shower was good and hot! The highlight of this hostel is its patio garden where you can unwind after a night out in Bangkok or a morning of seeing temples. Complimentary breakfast of coffee... more

Booked a double AC room way in advance as had read so many good reviews of the Shambara. The room itself was quite small and poky, and had mosquitos despite the AC, but it was clean. The bathrooms were shared and no hot water but this wasn't a problem in Bangkok in December, and again they were clean. The hostal... more

The hype is justified - this is the best place I found on Khao San Road. The front beer garden / seating area is a fantastic place to spend a few hours drinking beers in the evening, if the constant hustle of Khao San doesn't appeal. The food from the restaurant was of course more expensive than the street vendors,... more

I stayed twice at this hotel in January 2005 and really enjoyed it. It was fairly quiet, well-run and very cheap. As another reviewer said it, walking down the little Soi of Shambara feels like entering a totally different place than noisy Khao San. But... I stayed at Shambara again this January and I have to say, this place really... more

Great find just off the Ko San Road - you feel like you have walked in to a completely different bit of Bangkok - its quiet, clean, well-kept and the friendly staff will help out with anything you need. Its also a total bargain - we paid 500 baht a night for a lovely twin room with aircon. It was... more

This is a small hostel, 9 rooms in total, which are furnished basically. They have a mixture of A/C and Fan rooms. The rooms are small, but were very clean. The hostel itself is ideally located just off Kohsan Road. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The thing that stood out most was the food, which... more

I heard good reviews about this place. It's a cheap place to stay near the attractions of Khao San Road so I wanted to make sure I stayed here while in Bangkok. I had to book a week ahead as it is very popular. The rooms are small (boutique), basically just a bed and side table, with no TV (TV... more
