After hiking from the car park to reception trying to not be intimidated by youths with bows and arrows (the hotel is only a tiny part of the castle, another part is a youth hostel/club), we were then shown to a room up three steep flights of stairs. I could have cried but I was too busy putting my lungs... more
This stunning castle hotel was perched high above the town of Oberwesel and commanded an impressive position. It was accessed via a winding mountain road. The closest carpark to the castle crosses a narrow wooden bridge and is quite small. The overflow carpark fills quickly given the popularity of the place. Part of the castle grounds is open to tourists... more
I'm not necessarily the "Princess Type" , but boy was it easy to fall into being the Princess Type when I walked into our beautiful suite at Auf Schoenburg. I love hotels, have stayed in hundreds of different styles, etc... but this place truly wowed me in a way I haven't been wowed before! The "hidden" bedroom with a wonderfully... more
This is a unique experience, combining luxury and history and an amazing location overlooking the Rhine. The hotel is part of a real castle; and they did a fantastic job... more
We stayed two nights and were not disappointed. Enjoyed a tower room with balcony overlooking the Rhine. Fantasy room with all modern amenities but decorated to fit the part. Food was excellent and staff attentive. Make sure to wander at night on the castle walls. more

We has a sitting area with TV, a writing area and the most novel bathroom ever,... more
This place is really something else and no you don't need a car. We hiked to the top with our backpacks, no wheels, and it just made the destination that much more special. Take note though, the road is longer and harder to get to the top so find the trail that begins behind the church next to the weinhaus... more
This is truly a special place if you are willing to pay the extra Euros. However, we tried walking with luggage from the train station as suggested by the Tourist Information booth and it was hell. When we arrived an hour later there was no apology ..... I sensed they thought it was humorous. The hotel is 2.5 kms from... more
Last year in 2007 we decided to drive to Lucerne, Switzerland and this definitely was the highlight of our trip, although it was just for a night! We drove from our overnight stay at Ghent were we were a meal to the mosquitos all night - it was a just like heaven! The drive along the Rhine was absolutely fabulous... more
