Me and two of my friends (all guys) stayed at the Riu Cancun for 8 nights in late July 2008. Upon arrival I was very impressed with the grounds. The place has a different style of pool for everyone. It is very clean and the workers there work hard and are very courteous. We stayed in the annex part of... more

Would you expect to go to a 5 star Thomsons platinum hotel and get robbed by the staff working there? if the answer is yes then by all means go to the Riu Cancun. If the answer is no then avoid it like the plague. My wife and I went there for two weeks in September this year. We were... more

We booked 2 rooms all-inclusive at the Riu Cancun Sept. 15-21 through Amex. The stay was overall enjoyable. The hotel premisses are well depicted in the travelers' pictures. It is very clean, both in common areas and in the rooms. We were told it was only 5 years old but we are wondering if this is true, because it looks... more

Booked this hotel based on previous reviews and the fact that it is advertised by the Tour Operator as - 'beachfront living at its best', 'classy' and 'breathtaking'. This certainly is not the case. If you want either of the above stay next door at the RIU Palace Las Americas. Stay at the Riu Cancun if you want: - A... more

Just returned from the Riu Cancun(21\09\2008-01\10\2008).18 of us in the group, including some children. We went for my daughters wedding.Travelled with Thomson, long flight but worth it.Hotel was great, heard stories on tripadvisor, but speak as you find, and I found it great!!!.Room was large and clean, maid service was good.Pools were clean, stayed away from swim up bar,for obvious reasons.Spent most time around quiet pool, and hot tub.Cleaners... more

This is definitely NOT a 5 star property! 2-3 stars, maybe! Our room was dated, dingy, and depressing. The dark blue furniture was new in the '70's ... and the bedding was old, thin, and pilled. The power was intermittent - often went out for and hour or two, and then came on, leaving people stuck in their rooms without... more

After reading the reviews of this hotel on here we were so looking forward to our holiday. However this hotel was very disappointing, and is not a 5 star by any means. Our room was dated dull and dingy, our air conditioning didn’t work and “rattled” continuously. After 2 days we asked for it to be fixed, we were told... more

I was hit by a large beach parasol just above my right eye as precautions hadn't been take with a hurricane in the area. Hotel doctor said I needed to go to the hospital but then all help from the hotel stopped. The care at the hospital was very good but the bill, including a head scan, due to a... more

Riu Cancun Hotel -14 September to 28th September 2008 Before I start, I would like to confirm at the outset that I had a good holiday! I didn’t spend all that money and fly all that way to have a crap time, but by some of my comments below you might think that I didn’t enjoy the holiday and I’m... more

The hotel is very clean as they have an army of cleaners on hand all day. The staff are very welcoming and can not do enough for you, they will bend over backwards to help with all your needs. This is my third year at this hotel and can not get enough, i will be going back next year. This... more
